CHARGER CHRONICLES

March 5, 2021

“Look upon yourself as a tree planted beside the water, which bears its fruit in due season; the more it is shaken by the wind, the deeper it strikes its roots into the ground.” -- Margaret Mary Alacoque

Please pray for the families and friends of our SMM community who have asked for our prayers. If you would like us to pray for a loved one, please send Coach Gay an email: gknock@saintmm.org.

For all service men and women; first responders; police; firefighters; health care workers; and everyone who is keeping us safe, protected, and fed during the COVID 19 crisis.

Simone Boell, Dale McCloskey, Ryan Ware, Lorraine Olmo, Jessica Bodron, Krista Soileau, Nicholas Eirich, Carla Hurlburt, Cheryl Walters Swanson, Juan Peralta, Nicole Forrest, Courtney Palulio, Lisa Ferrer, Mrs. Peterson's Mom, Richard Michell, Patsy Meyers, Dana Cline, Mary Grace Dragon, Robert Carroll, and Kathy O'Hanlon.

For the intentions of the parishioners of St. Luke, St. Genevieve, St. John of the Cross, St. Peter and Paul, and Sacred Heart parishes.

For all those sick and suffering from the Coronavirus, may they recover quickly and completely.

Please Pray for Our Priests

In addition to our requests for prayers for our SMM families and community, we request that you pray for individual priests in our Archdiocese. Our priests need our prayers as much as we need theirs. These priests are celebrating their birthdays this upcoming week. What a great birthday present to have so many people praying for them.

Rev. Thomas M. McCann; Rev. Manuel Eduardo Solorzano-Zerpa, O.P.; Rev. Kyle V. Dave; Rev. Suvakin Arulandu; Rev. Carroll Heffner; Rev. Jose Roel Lungay;Rev. Augustine Foley, O.S.B.

Here is a brief prayer that you may want to use:

Eternal Father, we lift up to you these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness and holiness of your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing tp you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

Dear Parents,

As Governor Edwards has moved us into Full Phase III, the following changes will take place:

1) Students will return to the cafeteria for lunch.

2) Students in Grades 3-7 can participate in recess by grade level instead of homeroom.

3) Enrichment classes (will return to the art room and the Cooper Library*!)

4) Students will return to their grade-level Atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

4) All other restrictions are still in place: Masks, sanitizing in morning and after each class, hand-washing.

* Mrs. Charlotte Cooper, who was an avid reader and general historian of all things (and people) of St. Margaret Mary School. Mrs. Cooper passed away prior to Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, the library was named in honor of our beloved long-time receptionist.

Congratulations to our February Students of the Month

These students were chose by their teachers because they do their best in school, they are kind and courteous, and they are exemplary role models for their peers. We are proud of them!

Congratulations to the SMM Student of the Year and Finalists

Every school year, the Louisiana Department of Education conducts a contest for Students of the Year in 5th, 8th and High School. The students are chosen based on several factors: academic achievement, Christian behavior, service, leadership, and school & community involvement. Our students compete at the school and archdiocesan levels before moving on to the state level if chosen as the top students in the archdiocese.

The SMM 2020-2021 5th Grade Student of the year is Matthew Donovan. He is pictured on the right with his parents, Becky and Michael. Matthew went on to compete at the Archdiocesan level.

SMM's finalists for the honor are shown in the photo below.

L to R: Miller Wadleigh, Addison Melerine, Lillian Enright, Madelyn Nguyen, Matthew Donovan, Thomas Schneidau, Frances (Frankie) Thompson, Mary Wootan, and Alicia (Ali) Yates.

CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH

In honor of the year of St. Joseph, you may consider consecrating yourself to our Spiritual Father. You will need to purchase Fr. Calloway’s book “Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father" by Fr. Donald Calloway. Drawing upon the long tradition of devotion to St. Joseph, Fr. Calloway invites us to consecrate ourselves to the heroically pure and just St. Joseph. The consecration begins on February 15th and ends on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, March 19th. Our Come Lord Jesus prayer group will meet each week on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am beginning on February 17th to reflect on what has been read and prayed. However, the consecration can be done without attending this group. If you have any questions, you can contact Fr. Dan at ddarmanin@saintmm.org.

LENTEN EVENINGS OF CONFESSION

As has become tradition in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, all Catholic church parishes in the area will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation for three consecutive Wednesdays beginning March 10. As we continue the observance of the Year of the Eucharist & St. Joseph, the evening of March 24 will be one of not only the Sacrament of Reconciliation but one of Eucharistic Adoration and Exposition.

Feed Your Soul with Prayer this Lent!

Nothing will transform your life so completely, absolutely, and forever like really learning how to pray.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing through all forty days of Lent, you will receive a daily email with a short video to help you reconnect with yourself and your God.

If you choose to throw yourself into this experience, we promise you that you will be surprised by what God can do in your life with just an email, a short video and an open heart. So this year, don’t just sign up for BEST LENT EVER, have your best lent ever!
