Principal's Message
Welcome back from an incredible fall break! It was so nice to see all of the children and teachers excited to be back at school. This is the time of year where we need to be aware that the weather outside changes on a daily basis. As the temperature begins to change, please make sure that your children are prepared with appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. Students will go outside, except during inclement weather, and should dress appropriately (coat, hat, gloves, etc.). ACSC will use the following guidlelines: All students are expected to participate in recess and physical education. The students will go outside, except during inclement weather, and should dress appropriately (coat, hat, gloves, etc.). The schools will use the following guidelines: If the temperature with wind chill is at or above 20 degrees, students will have outdoor recess.
ACSC administers the Cognitive Abilities Test, or CogAT, to all students in Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades to measure students reasoning and problem solving skills using different types of verbal, quantitative and nonverbal questions. The test is administered in a group setting. Kindergarten students will take a shorter screener version of the CogAT. 2nd grade students will take the full battery of the CogAT in a paper-pencil format, while 4th grade students will take the full battery of the CogAT in an online testing format.
It is our intention to send CogAT results home when they are available, which should be at the end of Quarter 3, March 12, 2021. ACSC utilizes the results from the CogAT to tailor instruction for students and for High Ability Identification for grades 3 and above.
Veteran’s Day Announcement
We will still be honoring our Veterans on this special day! Mrs. Porter is working on a special virtual surprise that we will send out on ParentSquare on November 11th!
Sincerely,
Nicole Harris

NURSE NOTES
With cold temperatures approaching, please ensure that your child has a jacket or coat to wear during outdoor recess. Due to Covid restrictions, we can no longer allow students to borrow from the clinic. Gloves and hats will also need to be provided.
Also, please make sure that your student has a change of clothes in his/her backpack each day in case of accidents, spills, etc. Pants are especially important/needed in order get the students back to their classrooms in a timely manner.
