Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 4, Week 3 - 29 October 2021
100 YEAR PRAYER
You have poured down so many blessings on our Mary’s Mount community.
We have gathered here to give You thanks on this our 100th anniversary.
We thank You for the love, determination and vision of Saint Emilie de Vialar,
for the commitment and self sacrifice of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Apparition,
for the priests who guided us,
for the teachers who taught us,
for the students who enriched us,
and for the parents who entrusted their children to us.
Thank You that our school bears the name of Mary, our most Holy mother, who constantly intercedes for us.
Strengthen us to weather all storms and challenges, so that by our response, we can bring You glory and praise.
We pray this in the name of your beloved son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Parents, Carers and friends of Mary’s Mount Primary School,
What an exciting week we have had to prepare for the Open Night tomorrow evening. We have had many delays in the completion of the Sacred Space area due to the unseasonal weather we have experienced over the last few months. The contractors and staff of Mary’s Mount have gone above and beyond to make sure that the area is ready for the official blessing tomorrow evening.
TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY – Friday 29 October
At Mary’s Mount Primary School, we are blessed with dedicated and exceptional staff who have the children at the heart of all they do. On a day like ‘teacher’ appreciation day, I wish to acknowledge all the staff at Mary’s Mount Primary School. Any moment of any day presents teachable points in time. That could be through the curriculum or through an interaction with Mr Sorg Senior and Mr Gair in the playground while they tend to our beautiful grounds. All staff of Mary’s Mount Primary School have an impact on the children in our care and can ‘teach’ any time, anywhere. We carry this responsibility with pride and hold each other to a high standard in our interactions on a daily basis.
So, tomorrow on Teacher Appreciation Day let us celebrate all Mary’s Mount Primary School staff with an extra special welcoming and affirming smile to brighten their day.
MPS COMMUNITY MEETING - 8 November, Monday
Two session times are available 9am (for coffee, cake and conversation) or 6pm (for wine, cheese and conversation).
I am seeking your feedback and input on how we move forward as a community. The topics to be covered at both sessions are;
- School Uniforms
- Homework
- Climate Survey Data - help us form the School Improvement goals for 2022
- Early Years Outdoor Learning Environment
Andrew Thomas, the landscape designer who has developed the concept design for the Early Years Outdoor Learning space will be presenting the Mary's Mount Report at the 9am community meeting. I will be sharing this same information with those who can make the Community Meeting at 6pm.
Your attendance would be greatly appreciated and will value add to the decision-making processes. This is an opportunity to have your say in these areas listed above.
STAFFING
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Mrs Erin Leech will be continuing as Assistant Principal at Mary’s Mount Primary School next year. Erin has been welcomed into the community this year and made herself at home establishing firm relationships with community and staff members.
NOEL RD CARPARK
Please be cautious when exiting the Noel Rd carpark when leaving the school grounds. It is important for us to consider road traffic when we move from the carpark to Noel Rd. Thank you for being mindful of this and considering the safety of others.
CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU
Andrew Osenton, from Kalamunda Plant Company - and also a parent in our school community - kindly donated his time to plant the garden that will surround Mary in our new Sacred Space. Our wonderful P&F funded this aspect of the Sacred Space and we are so thankful for their donation.
Andrew spent time making sure that the plant choice suited the area and has planted the space so that Mary will be surrounded by lush, flowering plants. The children of Mary's Mount Primary School spent time with Andrew today learning about the planting process. Kalamunda Plant Company uses coir pots that break down in the soil and encourage healthy root growth. This aligns with our focus on sustainability and caring for God's earth.
I wish to also congratulate Andrew at this time for his election to the City of Kalamunda Council. Well done Andrew, we know how much of an advocate you are in caring for our Earth and we wish you the best in this new role.
God Bless.

YEAR 6 CAMP - OCTOBER 2021
The Year 6 Students on the 18th November left for Pinjarra camp for 5 days. In that time, the Year 6's went on many adventures and overcame many fears. Everyone pushed each other to do their very best and no matter what, everyone's faces were filled with smiles and happiness. This experience was a great one to learn to trust and help each other. Mr Sorgiovanni, Mrs Leech, Mrs Bell, Mrs Muscat, Miss Thresher and Mr Smith joined us on this adventurous trip.
Rumour has it that Mr Sorg said that we were the best class to take to camp and that it was THE best camp he's ever been on. We can all admit no one got the perfect sleep on camp but it was worth being tired. If you're the next Year 6's to go on this wonderful trip, just remember, don't expect to be resting in your dorm for an hour after every meal. It's go-go-go until lights out. This trip is a trip to remember!

Year 6 Student
On the 18th October the Year 6's packed their bags and left to Fairbridge Camp.
We arrived in the afternoon and were sorted into our cabins. Soon after, we started an activity call the 'Pinjarra Challenge'. In this activity we learned to cooperate and trust each other. We finished at lunch time and feasted on wraps and biscuits.
On the second day we did orienteering, archery and canoeing. At night, we were supposed to do spotlight but because it was pouring with rain that night, we had a disco in the dining hall instead. The next day we went on the Flying Fox, did a Low Ropes Course and Mountain Biking.
During this day, we all learned to trust one another and cooperation. On Thursday, one group did Abseiling and Rock Climbing and the other group did the High Ropes Course. This day was the day as we had to face our fears.

P&F UPDATE
A very special thank you to those families who volunteered this week to assist with our School Open Night! Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated by us all. If you are coming to the Open Night we've got you covered for dinner options! Join us in the main quadrangle after 4.30pm for your choice of a Moroccan meal, burger, nachos, chips, sausage hot dog, donuts, ice-cream, tea, coffee, milkshakes and more. Please support these local businesses who are supporting our school and the P&F.
Mark Sunday 13 March 2022 in your calendar for the annual P&F Breakfast in the Park event. Next year we will be seeking to have each class parent group support or coordinate one activity at BIP, so watch out for what activity we'll be asking your parent group to help us manage. BIP is our major fundraiser for the year and a huge event so it's all hands on deck but lots of fun and very worthwhile. If you'd like to be a part of the BIP coordinating team please contact Michelle Batten by emailing her at pfmarysmount@gmail.com.
Tomorrow is World Teacher Appreciation Day! On behalf of all of the parents and friends of MMPS we wish to say a very BIG and special thank you to every one of our teachers and support staff at Mary's Mount. We are incredibly lucky to have a brilliant team of staff at our school who are not only great educators, but genuinely care for our children. They work many long hours and deal with lots of challenges that we don't see, but always have time for parents and a smile on their face. Thank you MMPS staff!
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee
