The Good News
Saint John XXIII March 5, 2020
We are heading into the second week of our Lenten journeys. In our Catholic faith, Lent is a prayerful time in which we prepare ourselves to celebrate the grace of forgiveness, our gift of salvation, and hope in the Resurrection. Many symbols during the Lenten season are reflective of the time Jesus spent in the desert. During Lent we work towards an inner renewal of our Baptism in Christ. We are grateful for the life we have with Christ and the love and hope this brings every day.
Our students are focusing on their Lenten promises in their classes and finding ways they can feel closer to Jesus. During Lent we focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Our Faith leadership Squad is giving us a Lenten Challenge each day. Today they challenged our school community to fast from screen time today.
"Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing — grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God". Joel 2:12-14
As you journey into the desert this Lenten season may you find peace with God.

Catching that Leprechaun at Saint John XXIII! School wide Makerspace-March 16th
It will soon be St. Patrick’s Day and those pesky leprechauns will be up to their old tricks! Prankster Patricia has challenged the students of St. John XXIII to build the perfect leprechaun trap. This year, we are going to try to outsmart those sneaky leprechauns! Next week, students will meet with their partner or group to design and plan their trap. From there, they will collect supplies until March 13th. Building will take place in the afternoon of March 16th.
Please support your child by:
- Helping them bring in recycled items to create their traps by March 13th. Some examples include: Small boxes - shoe, cereal, kleenex etc., paper or plastic cups, plastic fruit baskets, masking tape, duct tape, pipe cleaners. A letter will be sent home from their teacher with more ideas.
- Sharing in their enthusiasm
- Ensuring that the "creating" and "making" happens at school with their partners and not at home (Students need the opportunity to problem solve and explore). Feel free to create one at home too! Those pesky Leprechauns go everywhere!
Have fun discussing and brainstorming ideas with your child. We can’t wait to see the amazing ideas St. John XXIII students come up with! This will be the year we catch a leprechaun!
