Looking Ahead - Learning
This week, we will be reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Joffe Numeroff.
You can listen and read-along with this story by watching the video below.
After we read the story, First Graders will answer a series of questions about the characters, the story, and about different events that happened. Then, (my favorite part!) students will write their own story! Start thinking now about what animal you might like to write about, and what you are going to give it. We will be working on these books this week and next week. My example book is, "If You Give a Tiger a Toothbrush."
2. Math
In math, we will be furthering the things we learned last week about single digit addition by combining single and double digit addition. (Example: 13 + 8). We will then move on to double digit addition! (Example: 24 + 52)
Have your first grader SHOW what they know so far by taking the quiz below.

As you may know, this month we are focusing on the country of Burkina Faso. This week, we will be talking about what families in Burkina Faso look like. We will also be Skyping with MY first grade teacher, Mrs. Clouser, who has lived in Burkina Faso for many years. First Graders will be coming up with questions to ask Mrs. Clouser during our Skype session.
To learn more about this country, click "Burkina Faso" below.
