A Note From The Teacher
Please click here as soon as possible to help me in creating a contact list of everyone's email addresses and other important contact information. The information you provide will be kept confidential. Please fill this out by this Fri., August 28th. If I haven't received your response by that date I'll be sending out a reminder in a Bloomz message. Thank you for your help!
I'll try to post a newsletter once a week. Depending on what's happening in our classroom and how much information needs to be shared, they may become less frequent throughout the school year. Information that needs to be shared out right away will be posted on Bloomz. If the information is especially important I may send it by email as well. Occasionally I'll forward emails to you from the school that contain pertinent information for you.
Learning At Home
Microsoft Teams will be used for parent conferences via video chat, homework, classwork, and for face-to-face meetings with my students throughout the school day. All students are expected to be at every meeting and to complete all of their classwork just as they would if they were sitting in my classroom. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately during school-time just like they would in the classroom. No pajamas should be worn. Please make sure your child has school supplies at home to use to complete some of their assignments. My expectation is that they are prepared and ready for class everyday.
Here's a tutorial on how to use Microsoft Teams. YouTube is also a great option! Type "How to use Microsoft Teams for students" into the search bar and you'll find a list of videos. Click here to view a video that was created by the school board will be very helpful! Understanding how to use the programs your child will be using throughout the year will be very important.
Please utilize MyOn, Think Central, Teach Your Monster to Read, and Splash Learn for extra reading and math practice (Teach Your Monster and Splash Learn haven't been set up yet, more information will be coming soon). We will be using iReady several times a week for no less than 45 min. per week for both reading and math during the normal school day (view their FAQs sheet here). Click on both links in the previous sentence to learn more about using iReady at home. Many of these programs are accessible through your child's student portal. iReady is only accessible on your child's student portal on a computer, laptop, Chromebook, or an iPad (setting it up on an iPad can be a little tricky, so you may not want to use this option if it's confusing to you). It will not show up on other devices. If you're using an Apple Macbook, you will need to configure your internet browser to run Flash Player, otherwise iReady won't work. Your internet browser will walk you through how to do this. If you need help, let me know and I can send you a tutorial (I have a Macbook Pro at home, so I had to do the same thing initially).
