Bulldog Bulletin
New Britton - September 18, 2105
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Friday, September 11th marked the mid-term point of our first 9-week grading period. As a reminder, if you have a student in kindergarten, first, or second grade, the report card will be standards based. No traditional letter grades (A – F) are given. Students are assessed according to their understanding of reading, writing, math, listening and speaking standards with the following indicators: N-Needs Improvement, P-Progressing, and S-Satisfactory. If you have a student in third or fourth grade, letter grades are given, and you can check Skyward Family Access to review grades. Since we are in the first 9 weeks, there will not be as many grades as we will have in future grading periods due to beginning of the year assessments, emphasis on establishing routines and building stamina, and time spent “launching” our different grade-level workshops and instructional blocks.
Teachers should be communicating with you if they have academic concerns at this point. The end of the first 9-week grading period is October 9th. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in October. Please look for more information regarding the details of conferences in upcoming newsletters.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. I hope to see your students at movie night tonight!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Chaucie's Place
NEW BRITTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
The Smart Steps education program will be taught at NBE on October 20.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. Fall Creek Elementary will be hosting on Tuesday, September 15th from 6:00pm-7:00pm and Sand Creek Elementary will be hosting from 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. These meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
New Staff Spotlight
Hi, my name is Morgan Smith. My fiancé and I are originally from Alexandria, IN, and we are getting married back home on October 3rd. We have a little Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Watson and the three of us are really enjoying being new to the Fishers community. Last year was my first year in the district and I taught 4th grade at Geist Elementary. I love to read dystopian novels (Hunger Games trilogy), try new recipes, and spend time with my friends and family. In addition, I enjoy math, science, and technology because it allows us to better explore the world around us and solve real world problems.
PTO NEWS
Mum pick-up is tonight from 5:30-7:30 pm. The pick-up will be a drive thru in the circle drive, so you can pull up and we will load your order.
Book Fair is October 14-21. A volunteer sign-up will be coming out soon. The book fair will be open during parent teacher conferences this year, so you can shop for books without your kiddos.
We are forming committees for the Bulldog Blast, our winter fundraising carnival. Please let us know if you would like to be involved. If you or your business are interested in making a donation for the Bulldog Blast or the silent auction, please contact Sarah Johnson at johnson10874@sbcglobal.net, or Leslie Zeisig at zeisig@sbcglobal.net.
Dining for Dollars
Hello New Britton Families! We will be having a Dining for Dollars event on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 4:00-9:00, at Dairy Queen located at 11976 Allisonville Road. NBE will get a percentage of all receipts for the evening. This would be a great way to celebrate the end of summer! Please tell your family, friends and neighbors to come have an after school treat, eat dinner, or get a dessert and support New Britton Elementary!
Thanks for participating, and we look forward to seeing you at DQ!
