Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

The first few weeks of school always requires an extra bit of patience during arrival and dismissal. It is always appreciated as everyone learns the process for both dropping off and picking up students.

Please refer to the Arrival and Dismissal Procedures received at Meet the Teacher Night last week.

Couple of quick reminders:

  • Always cross at the crosswalk directly in front of the school - this is a safety issue especially in the morning with cars facing the sun and helps everyone to see people if you cross at the designated spot. Please do not drop off at the first crosswalk. Instead drive down the driveway and let students exit in the designated area.
  • In the morning, students need to exit closest to the curb. Please do not exit in the middle of the lane.
  • Cars need to stop before the crosswalk line to let students out of cars.
  • In the afternoon, you can use the drive through lane next to the left lane to exit after you pick up your child for a quicker way to leave.
  • Carpool tags are a great way to reduce the lines in the front of the building. If you drive at least 2 LES kids to and from school, you can pick up the carpool tag in the office and use the back drive before and after school. Carpool uses the back door of the school to enter the building.

Check out our youtube video on arrival/dismissal procedures by clicking this link: LES arrival and dismissal procedures video.

School hours are 7:55 a.m. - 3:10 p.m. Our doors open at 7:30 a.m. for students to enter the building.

What to do in rain and lightning?

August in Texas has been a crazy month with the all the rain! Lightning arrival and dismissal is never fun, but safety is our top priority.

Here is a quick run-down on what to do if we are caught with lightning in the morning or afternoon:

Liberty Elementary Rain & Lightning Procedures

Per KISD Guidelines during lightning, the Keller ISD staff will follow the standards set forth by the National Lightning Safety Council. Staff members are not allowed to direct traffic or open car doors during a lightning storm.

Here is what you will need to do in each circumstance:

Morning arrival with lightning:

· Cones will be placed in lanes to help guide traffic

· Pull your car up to the curb in the front of the building. Students will be allowed to enter both the main doorway and the Kindergarten doorway.

· Staff will be outside to assist students into the building once they get out of cars

Morning arrival with only rain:

· Normal drop-off procedures

Afternoon dismissal during lightning:

· Students will be contained inside the building until the lightning storm has passed.

· Although, it is not recommended, a parent may enter the building and escort their child outside.

· If you choose to have your child dismissed during a lightning storm, the District will honor the request if you sign the District approved waiver form. This form was available on Infosnap when you completed re-verification this summer.

Afternoon dismissal with no lightning:

· Students will be held inside the main corridors.

· Please pull your car up as usual and teachers will shuttle students from the building to your vehicle.

· This process will add additional time to drop-off/pick-up, but it is well worth it where the safety of our students is concerned.
