Message from the desk of Scott Feldkamp
Dear VCMS Families,
I hope you are all well and off to great start in 2023. VCMS students and staff have had a terrific 1st semester and are well on our way to an equally successful and exciting 2nd semester. There are many transition activities underway for our 8th grade students who will be attending high school in the fall. If you need more information about transition please visit the VCMS website for transition details. We also have transition plans in place for our 2023-2024 rising 6th grade students from our feeder elementary schools. I also want you to save the date for West Fest on Saturday, March 25 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. West Fest is where all of the West Community of Schools (Vickery Creek Middle, Vickery Creek Elementary, Hendricks Middle, West High, Kelly Mill Elementary, and Sawnee Elementary) are coming together for one large celebration. There will be activities for all ages, a student showcase,
performances, food trucks and a whole lot more. I hope you and your family can attend!
Speaking of celebrations, I would like to congratulate our 7th /8th grade basketball teams and cheerleaders for an amazing season. From the players, cheerleaders, student section, parents, to all the family members who have supported the teams, I would like to say thank you for your energy, effort, and support.
Most of you are aware of how wonderful our VCMS PTO is and all they do to support our school and your children. They support the school by volunteering their time, offering financial support, and providing morale boosters. If you are looking for opportunities to get involved at VCMS, I highly encourage you to reach out to the VCMS PTO and become a member. Here is a link to the VCMS PTO website.
I also want to remind our community that I will be more than happy to attend Homeowner
Association meetings for subdivisions who reside in the Vickery Creek Middle School district. During these visits, I will share information about Vickery Creek Middle School and provide insight to middle school life. If you are an HOA board member and would like to have me attend one of your monthly, semi-annual, or annual HOA meetings, please click on the link below.

Notes from the Clinic
As a reminder, Georgia state law requires that all students, born on or after January 1, 2002, must have a Meningitis (MCV4) and a Tetanus (TDAP) vaccine on a GA 3231 immunization record before entering the seventh grade.
Please ensure your student is up to date on all required immunizations prior to the new school year and ensure your healthcare provider has updated their immunization record.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns, thank you!

Media Center
We have had a very busy month since we’ve returned from winter break. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA and reading classes have been busy with activities and lessons in the Media Center. 6th and 7th graders tested their artistic skills while learning about the many titles in their next genres of study (6th grade - Historical Fiction and Fantasy, 7th grade Novels in Verse) Both grades tested their familiarity with authors and titles in these genres while playing an exciting game of Pictionary. Students had the opportunity to explore more about these books using NoveList Plus to read reviews and look at comparisons. 8th graders paired a digital citizenship lesson on spotting fake news with an introduction to using credible sources for online research in preparation for their upcoming argumentative essays in ELA.

The VCMS Media Center is so much more than just books. It is a place to come and connect with fellow students, explore areas of interest, and have some good old-fashioned fun with puzzles, card games, chess and checkers. Adding to our assortment, we recently purchased a full sized keyboard for students to use. Many come to try something they’ve never had the opportunity to do before, while others share their musical gifts and talents with those in the media center. More musical instruments to come!
Read by Mr. Cheek Author: James Dashner This is the sequel to The Maze Runner. I enjoy books and movies that catch me off guard and have lots of action. | Read by Ms. Kim White Author: Jocko Willink and Leif Babin So far this book is amazing! It parallels military leadership lessons and experiences to real world leadership. The lessons learned on the battlefield are very applicable to any leader, whether in education or corporate America. Very insightful! | Read by Ms. Alain Author: Lily Brooks-Dalton Beautiful book. If you enjoyed the love letter to North Carolina that was Where the Crawdads Sing, then you will love this dynamic love letter to Florida. Set in the near future, this hopeful story of survival and resilience follows Wanda—a luminous child born out of a devastating hurricane—as she navigates a rapidly changing world. Think post-apocalyptic with an environmental twist. |
