Second Grade Rock Stars
Tour News!
Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
Other highlights for the week include students matching up based on doubles facts, finding the range and mode on several data sets, making a line plot and bar graph out of their data, writing about something that is important to them, beginning Guided Reading Groups, and focusing on understanding what they are reading and continuing to read with expression. These are some ravishing readers!
(Ask your child if they can tell you what ravishing means...it was a Rock Star Word of the Day and one that was used all week long.)
Reminders for those helping students at home:
This is tricky concept and the text book and homework pages were harder than they needed to be (and very confusing!)
Mode is the number that shows up the most in the data set.
Range in the highest number in the data set minus the lowest number in the data set.
Have your child solve this problem:
- Data set: 1, 5, 2, 7, 4, 5
- What's the mode?
- What's the range?

Answer to the questions!
(5 shows up twice and the other numbers show up once...so it shows up the most)
range: 6
(even though there is not a 6 in the data set! Highest number (7) minus the lowest number (1) is the range...so 7-1=6
