Student SCHIVIRS
In an effort to make sure we are recognizing all our students, we are opening up the opportunity for students to nominate their peers when they are seen living out our Pirate Character Traits in our building.
Staff SCHIVIR Spotlight
Here are the January nominees:
SARAH ROOT
STUDENT FOCUS
Sarah works with special needs students in my classroom...Her patience with these students amazes me, and I'm so grateful for her presence in my classroom.
RACHEL JERMAIN
STUDENT FOCUS
Rachel has a huge workload juggling the needs of her ELL students. She does a great job of differentiating the needs of her students and communicating that to teachers. More importantly, however, her students LOVE her. She is their person when they're at school. She's a great asset to have here at PCHS.
VANESSA VAN BLEISEM
Vanessa has gone above and beyond to individually conference with Rosetta Stone students in Spanish 4. This is not a part of her teaching schedule, but she has reached out to our upper level students offering them time with her two times per week. Vanessa is then able to provide authentic feedback to students, parents, and Mrs. Larson (who is the facilitator of Rosetta Stone).
KATIE PARKIN
STUDENT FOCUS
Katie went out of her way to build a relationship with a student that was not on her caseload or classroom roster in order to help with a situation.
KIM REDINGER
Kim Redinger has come up with a brilliant idea to make our genetics unit in biology more fun and interactive for the kids!! She has "gamified" the unit by turning the lessons into challenges for which the students can earn badges. She even pulled in three of our students who struggle to stay interested in class by asking them to help design the game's structure, levels, and branding. I am so excited to start this adventure of learning with our students!!
DEANNA POWELL
COLLABORATION
I know part of Deanna's job is to get people to work gates and to cover the Welcome Center in the mornings before Krystal gets in. Neither one of these tasks is easy to do. ...she addresses students, staff and visitors alike with the same warm smile and greeting pretty much every day. I know it helps start my day on a good note whenever I see her smiling face welcoming me first thing in the morning and I am sure it does for others as well.
Action Alert from Northland Coalition
Currently, the Missouri State Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) is drafting the rules and regulations regarding medical marijuana. Now is our opportunity to provide input on how these restrictions, or lack thereof, will impact our youth and communities. They are hearing volumes of information from the marijuana industry and very little from our side. Please take a minute to compose and send a personal email with your concerns and comments to these decision makers. We provided some suggestions below.
Suggestions for composing a comment to the Medical Marijuana Division of DHSS:
- Start a new email to: MedicalMarijuanainfo@health.mo.gov. Address your letter to "Mr. Lyndall Fraker"
- Introduce yourself and share a little about why you care or are concerned about medical marijuana marketing, etc. Be specific to regulatory issues such as those listed below.
- Copy and paste these recommendations (or write your own suggestions):
"I encourage you to consider the following regulations that would protect our youth and community:
- require age 21 to purchase, sell, cultivate or be employed in the marijuana industry,
- impose strict limits on marketing,
- use a tracking system to limit the volume of marijuana products sold or purchased,
- require extensive training and qualifications of dispensary staff,
- require the products to be sold in packaging that mirrors prescription drug packaging with no flashy colors, names, or child friendly images,
- limit dispensing hours,
- limit edibles,
- require product inserts--similar to those that are provided with all other medicines."
- Sign the letter and provide your contact information.
