Many Hands, One Mason!!

September 5, 2019

Dear Mason Families,

We had a wonderful first week of school filled with learning and building relationships with ALL our learners! It was great to hear all about their adventures this summer and what excites them about returning to school. The sky is the limit for our learners and we appreciate your support!

Next week, our adult-only back to school night will take place on Tuesday, September 10th from 6:30-8 pm! Please make every attempt possible to be present at this wonderful event as our staff is working extremely hard to create an experience that is both informative and inspirational! We will begin promptly at 6:30 pm sharp in the gym and then classroom presentations will follow at 7 pm.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Dinner Conversation Starters:

Can you tell me about one of the 7 habits you learned about in school this week?

Why is it important to be a good friend to others?

What does being kind to your friends look like?

Painting Help:

We need some help painting the blacktop on the playground in the near future. If you are interested in helping, please email Mr. Bishop at

Bell Schedule

Parents/Visitors at Mason

For the safety of all of our students, all parents and visitors must go directly to the office to sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass. This pass must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.

The GPPSS has modified attendance codes for our district to keep consistent records at all schools. What's important for you to know?

  1. Medical appointments now require a doctor's note for an excused absence.

  2. Tardies are now split out in six minutes increments, giving a better picture of our students arriving late.

Attendance is a serious matter. We need to know where your child is when they do not show up for regular school hours. Please use the attendance line 313-432-4401 to report an absence prior to 9:00 a.m.

Parent Back to School Night

Tuesday, September 10th is Parent Back to School Night at Mason. We will start promptly at 6:30 PM in the gym with a message from Mr. Bishop, followed by teacher presentations at 7 and 7: 30 PM. We have two sessions available for each teacher just in case you can’t make the first one or if you have multiple students at Mason. Thanks for coming! We would love to see all our parents there! Let’s make this the biggest Back to School Night turnout ever!

September’s LIM and PBIS Topic: Be Proactive (Respect) and hallway behavior

Hallway Behavior- We are working extremely hard at making sure we are conducting ourselves in a positive way in the hallway. Our goal is to make sure we are keeping our school as safe as possible and part of that is making sure we understand the expectations for the hallway. Please ask your child to tell you what they are expected to do in the hallways of Mason.

Be Proactive: I have a “Can Do” attitude. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I don’t blame others. I do the right thing without being asked, even if nobody is looking.

Hand Signal that goes along with Being Proactive: Place your thumb to your chest.

Mason Parking Lot Rules for Student Drop Off and Pick Up

Parents/families… We need your help in the Mason parking lot! Mason is committed to maintaining a policy of safety and respect regarding transportation and parking. The following guidelines have been established to promote this policy. Please read this carefully as you participate in dropping off and picking your child up from school in the near future. Thanks for your support in helping to keep our parking lot safe and accident-free. Please do not park in the numbered parking spaces as they are designated for your child's teachers.

Parent/Driver Expectations:

  • Students that are being driven to school should be dropped off curbside (sidewalk) in the driveway circle. To assist with the flow of traffic, please pull your car forward as far as possible in the circle. We do not want any students walking across lanes of traffic or through the parking lot. Please do not leave any vehicles unattended in the circle. If you need to come in the building, please find a parking spot that isn’t numbered or park on Anita or Charlevoix St.

  • You MUST obey all traffic laws on the streets surrounding the school at ALL times. We will be enlisting the help of law enforcement throughout the year. Parking lot speed is 5 MPH.

Understandably, mornings and afternoons can be extremely hectic as we are all rushing to get to many different places. However, our students’ safety has to be our first priority. Therefore, please take time and drive slowly through our parking lot. Your cooperation with these basic safety rules is greatly appreciated.

Again, our goal is to make sure that that we create a safe environment for all students and families. Thank you very much for your support and cooperation.

Stomp out Bullying

Mason is proud to support the Stomp Out Bullying effort. We invite you and your student to join us in wearing pink every Wednesday to show our support. Lets put an end to bullying!!

Kids Club News

Below are some changes to how Kids Club will run this year. Please read carefully and call them if you have any further questions.

Parents have always signed up for specific Kids Club days in the past, however, this year parents are being asked to commit to their schedules by pre-paying for the day(s) they have registered for. This helps us maintain our state mandated ratios and to stay in compliance with the law. If a student is signed up for a specific day(s) that he or she does not attend, that day(s) will be credited to their account.

Parents are responsible to inform our office of any scheduling changes that need to happen according to their families needs. This can be done as far as one month in advance or as soon as the Friday of the week prior to the scheduling change needs, depending again on each family and their specific needs.

Please review the link below regarding our updated Kids Club policies and contact Kids Club with any questions or concerns.
