Dear JMI Families,
It's hard to believe that we are entering the seventh month of the school year!
With a new month comes new beginnings and March 1 marks the first day of our return to hybrid learning. Mr. Mirfield and I are thrilled to welcome students back to James Madison Intermediate School.
Even though we have been learning remotely since December, JMI continues to make improvements in our facilities. For example, each classroom has been updated with brand-new magnetic whiteboards. This improvement significantly enhances the learning environment for students in a variety of ways from how teachers can display information to incorporating more visual representations into the lessons. The custodians also installed new bulletin boards in the hallways outside several classrooms. These boards will be an ideal location for teachers to display positive messages and highlight student work.
As we approach the half-way mark of the third marking period, please be on the lookout for the Marking Period 4 In-Person/Remote Learning Survey coming out soon. As in the past, if you select in-person learning, you can switch to remote at any time. If you select remote learning, you will not be able to switch to in-person learning. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Read Across America Week
Parent Teacher Conferences March 2021
March 11 - 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
March 16 - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
March 18 - 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
*Homerooms 5-4, 5-5, 5-6, 5-7, 5-8, and 5-9 will have additional conference days.
As in the past, parents/guardians can sign up for conferences through Sign Up Genius. Since our conferences are virtual, the links to meet the teachers are embedded in the Sign Up Genius.
JMI LIBRARY IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS...AGAIN!
- If the student requesting the book is in-person, Ms. Colye will deliver the books to the classroom.
- If the student requesting the book is remote, Ms. Coyle will email the student when the book is ready for pick-up.
- When coming to school to pick up a book, please ring the doorbell and tell the JMI staff member who answers your child's name, section and title of the book you are picking up. Then please move away from the door and wait by the flagpole. After the staff member places the book outside, you can come forward to the table to collect the book.
- When dropping off a book, please place the book in the box outside the front door so the book can be sanitized.
The video below will show students how to put books on hold through the Follet website. The username is the Student ID# and the password is the same as their Chromebook password.
Character Pillar of the Month
Our monthly Character Day will be on Friday, March 12, and all students are encouraged to wear BLUE.
JMI Science Fair
We are so proud of all the hard work our students put into their Science Fair projects! This year, in addition to creating a Google Slide presentation. the students also had to produce a video explaining their project. The Flipgrid videos provided an opportunity to see the student's creativity and passion for science. Keep up the great work, JMI scientists! We know you are going to change our world for the better!
JMI PTO is looking to host DINE-OUT fundraising events in the upcoming months. These are fundraisers where we partner with local restaurants who will give the JMI PTO a portion of the total sales during the fundraiser. These fundraisers are a win-win for everyone - JMI PTO raises funds for future events, parents don't need to worry about dinner and small businesses are supported during the pandemic! We will be sending out more information in the near future.

When coming to JMI, please ring the bell at Door #1 and explain to the JMI staff member that you are picking up Spiritwear for your child. Then please back up to the flagpole. The JMI staff member will put your order on the desk outside the door. Once the staff member is back inside the building, please collect your items from the table. Thank you in advance for following the safety protocols we have in place.

- Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Please include the old iPad/Chromebook serial number & the new Chromebook serial number.
- Please also include email account used in the purchase.
