Book Fair Success!

Our Fall Book Fair was a HUGE success! We sold $11,600 worth of books and were able to keep $3,800 in profit (cash and Scholastic Dollars) to purchase new books and other materials for the library. This would not have been possible without the PTO, parent volunteers, Pam Parker- the Library PTO rep, and of course- all our customers!

The Global Read Aloud Begins!

This year, grades K-2 are participating in the 2016 Global Read Aloud. The GRA is a program that connects students across the world through shared book experiences. We will be studying author/illustrator Lauren Castillo for the next 6 weeks. Every week, we will read a different picture book that she has written or illustrated. We will connect with other schools across the country and world through a postcard exchange and through online forums. Look for more updates about this exciting program next month!

Library Center Fun!

After each library lesson, students can select a library center to visit. All of the centers promote literacy and a love of reading! Students have been enjoying the library centers.

Here's what some students have said about centers:

“I like the Puzzle Center because it works my brain and it’s fun to do.” –Tate

“The News Center is my favorite because I like to read about marine biology and check for new fish and animals that have been discovered.” –Nathan

“I like the Book Wish List center because now I know what books to read next time I come to the library- I can just look at my wish list!” –Brecken

“The Book Wish List center keeps you organized and helps you remember which book you want to read next” –Addie

Book Wish List Center

The Book Wish List Center is one of the library centers students can visit after each library lesson. During one of our library lessons, we discussed how readers have reading plans and usually have a "book stack" or a "book stash" hiding somewhere- basically a pile of books they would like to read. This center helps students create their own "book stack" in list form. Students grab their library notebook and "shop the shelves" to look for books they would like to read next. When they come back to the library, they can look at their list to help them select their next book!
