Keeping our parents informed

Important reminders

  • Report cards will go home on Tuesday, January 31st.
  • This week students will only be required to have 2 math and 2 ELA lessons in IREADY.
  • Wrestlers and any other athletes from 1st semester be sure that you have turned in all sports equipment and athletic wear by Friday otherwise you may be charged for the items. Wrestlers you should turn in the singlet and sweatshirt. All items can be turned in to the counseling office to Ms. Jones.
  • YEARBOOK SALES- Students and Staff who purchase a yearbook online for $30.00 before 3/1/2023 will receive a coupon sheet full of coupons to use at school. You will have to pay for the yearbook online in order to receive the coupons. Students who want their name on the cover pay an additional $7.00. Again you only get a coupon sheet if you pay for your yearbook online!
  • Please be sure that you have your correct and up-to-date contact information on file with the school.
  • Laptops need to be charged nightly. We have several students who are not doing this so the computer does not last throughout the entire school day.

Report Cards

This report card represents halfway mark for this year. All students will receive their IREADY math and reading levels for parents to see. 8th grade students will receive information on the 8th grade yearbook ads which are due by 2/3. Some students will have a letter if they are in danger of failing.

  • Students must pass MATH, ELA, and either Science or Social Studies.
  • Students must pass one year-long combination of ENCORE Classes.
  • Students must make adequate progress on their EOG tests.
  • Attendance is also taken into consideration.

8th grade parents ONLY

This year we have created a new opportunity for YOU to place an AD in the yearbook for your 8th grader. The students received a flyer last week with more details but the deadline was changed to February 3rd. The ads run as little as $10 to a full page of $80. This is a great opportunity to do something special for your students as they transition to HIGH SCHOOL.

IREADY Expectations School-wide

Here at HCMS we have a school-wide expectation for all of our students to grow and excel in their learning. All students are expected to complete 2 IREADY Math and 2 IREADY Reading lessons each week. This is to be completed as homework in many cases. While all classes may provide time for the students to work it is not enough time to effectively pass the required lessons. We need your help getting our students back on track with their learning. Many students tested 2-grade levels below their current grade. Now is the time to get them on track with their learning.

Attendance

Attendance is important for many reasons but one that stands out is the success of all students in the school. Attendance notes should be sent in either with your student or emailed to our data manager (heather.wilson@onslow.k12.nc.us) within 5 days of the absences. Students should not miss more than 10 days per semester. Students that go over this number are in danger of being retained.

Phone calls are only done as a reminder of important announcements, to inform of a change or an event that affects all families. Be sure that your information on file is correct and up to date to stay informed.
