Dear Essex Fells Families,

EFS will continue to utilize the current COVID-19 guidelines in place. We are researching the implementation of student testing in the Health Office if needed. Tents are ordered to support outdoor eating and learning opportunities throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support.

WEEKLY HEALTH UPDATE

As of 1/11/22, New Jersey Schools have now been directed to utilize the reduced Isolation/Quarantine Guidelines recently recommended by the CDC.

Individuals with symptoms testing positive for COVID-19 must Isolate from other people for 5 full days before returning to EFS on day 6 as long as they are fever free (100.4 or greater) for 24 hours or more without fever-reducing medication and are not exhibiting symptoms. The Isolation period is counted from the first day of symptoms or the positive test date in an asymptomatic case as day 0. If symptoms persist after day 5, continue to Isolate until fever free and other symptoms have improved. It is encouraged that you retest with an antigen test after day 5 prior to returning to school.

Individuals without symptoms who test positive for COVID-19 must Isolate from other people for 5 full days with day 0 being the day of the positive test. If no symptoms develop, Isolation can end after 5 full days before returning to EFS on day 6. If symptoms develop within one week of the positive test, the 5-day Isolation period starts over with day 0 being the first day of symptoms.

Individuals who are Exposed to a positive COVID-19 case must Quarantine for 5 full days before returning to EFS on day 6 unless they have recovered from COVID-19 within 90 days or have completed 2 weeks past all vaccination requirements including boosters for those eligible.

Upon return, these individuals must wear a tight fitting mask at ALL times and remain physically distant from others for an additional 5 days.

Please continue to inform the school of any COVID-19 exposures or positive tests so that we can assist you with return dates and procedures.

  • Twenty five COVID-19 cases have been reported to the district since our return from holiday break with students in attendance at school. The last reported case was on 1/19/22.

  • COVID-19 Vaccinations: children ages 5-11 are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine. The CDC recommends everyone ages 5 and older get a vaccine to help protect against COVID-19.

  • A student is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose.

  • If your child becomes vaccinated, please send a copy of the student vaccination cards once completed to Nurse Renz.

  • Travel Quarantine: Any unvaccinated student/staff member who has traveled outside of NJ, NY, PA, CT or DE will need to quarantine for 10 days or provide a negative COVID test on day 3, 4 or 5 to return to school with results from a physician. Domestic travel will need to be quarantined for a minimum of 3 days and International for a minimum of 5 days. Vaccinated individuals are exempt from quarantine but are encouraged to test on days 3-5 upon return.

  • The Safe Return Committee will review current procedures and make any necessary changes at the next meeting in February.
