Transition
Rising 5th Graders
Here are important dates to keep in mind for transition.
Elementary students visit the Greene School
This week we welcomed 4th grade students and their teachers from Blue Ash, Symmes and Montgomery Elementary Schools. They attended a specials presentation, toured the building and enjoyed lunch in our cafeteria. On Monday, April 30, students from MapleDale will visit the Greene School between 10:00 and 1:00 pm.
This year we will have you select your child's specials classes through an electronic form. We will share that on May 11. It will be in this newsletter and sent through a Black Board Connect Message.

We are excited to announce that “JH Launch” is now open for registration. JH Launch is a 2 day adventure designed to support your child’s successful transition to the Junior High School experience. Our enthusiastic staff has planned activities to engage your child in understanding their schedule, the facilities, extra-curricular offerings, how to navigating the building, teambuilding, and important people to meet and know. Registration is currently open via parent portal. For any student that is anticipating playing football in the fall and would also like to attend launch, our coaches have requested that they attend launch on the seventh and eighth of August.
Dates for JH Launch are as follows:
Session A: August 7,8
Session B: August 9,10

Lunch Accounts
Elementary School parents
Attention parents! The end of the year is quickly approaching, and the Sycamore Child Nutrition Department is working hard to collect the debt on student's accounts before we are out for the summer. This year we are being generous and allowing students to charge at the k-6 buildings through the end of the year, but with that being said we need your help paying off overdue account balances. Please be diligent about checking to see if your child owes money. He/she can check at lunch, or you can get on your parent portal account and find the account balance there. You can also call the Child Nutrition office, and we can help you with any questions you might have. Any debt accrued during the 2017/18 school year WILL roll over to the 2018/19 year.
STEAM Showcase
You are invited to Sycamore Community Schools first-ever K-12 STEAM Showcase on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at E.H. Greene Intermediate.
The purpose of the event is to spotlight district-wide STEAM learning and local businesses and organizations that utilize STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) in their work. The showcase will consist of live demonstrations, presentations, competitions, giveaways, and hands-on activities for all ages.
Some of the local organizations who will be participating include UC Blue Ash, Kroger Technology, Apple, Gorilla Maker, and the city of Blue Ash and Montgomery.
We are also excited to show off some of the work that is happening in our classrooms, including live demos of the AVES electric car, Blue Ash GeoCity, Montgomery PBL Carnival, and FIRST LEGO League. There will be opportunities for families to work with robotics, Makedo, and virtual reality. Come make a Mother’s Day present on our 3D printers!
Local food trucks will be serving food and refreshments from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
We anticipate a large turnout for this indoor/outdoor event. A free shuttle service from Maple Dale Elementary to E.H. Greene will run between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
6th Grade Picnics
6th Grade Picnic - Request for Food Donations and Volunteers
The 6th grade picnic will be held at Swaim Park on May 17 for the Blue and Purple wings and May 18 for the Gray and White wings. Food donations and volunteers are needed each day. Click on the link below to view details and sign-up opportunities. Thanks in advance for your help!
Greene School Rocks Earth Day!
Greene students had up-close-and-personal encounters with four rescued raptors last Tuesday, as rain made it necessary to hold Earth Day inside. Raptor Inc. brought a peregrine falcon, a great horned owl, an eastern screech owl, as well as Storm, a beautiful barn owl, who the students chose as Greene’s sponsored bird for 2018.
Students also made birdfeeder necklaces and received tree seedlings. Student Council promoted, bagged, and distributed the trees, which were enthusiastically received by both staff and students.
Text selfies planting trees or hanging feeders to Sarah Newman (348-3070)—we’ll post them online!
If you would like to plant a tree but don’t have space (or would just like to plant more trees), the City of Blue Ash invited Greene families to plant seedlings in the Nature Park on Saturday, May 5th. Meet us in the parking lot at 10:00 a.m.
