ACSD Newsletter Summer 2022
Celebrations and Resources for Summer!
It was a beautiful day for the return of our senior parade!
Elementary students greet and cheer our seniors as they walk to their final assembly.
Dear ACSD Community,
I want to congratulate our PreK, 5th, 8th, and 12th graders who celebrated graduations and moving up ceremonies throughout June. We are incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see what you do next!
I also want to acknowledge and thank so many people in our community for helping us through this year. Families, teachers and staff, board, administration, and students all developed new ways to support each other and our learning community. This summer we will reflect and build forward to focus on wellness and academic strength for all of our students and staff in the '22-23 year.
This newsletter shares celebrations from the end of our school year, offers resources for your summer months and has a survey about school/family communication for you to share feedback.
I hope your summer is off to great start!
Peter Burrows, Superintendent
SUMMER RESOURCES
ACSD Summer Meals for All Children 0-18!
ALL children 0-18 are eligible for breakfast and lunch each day!
- Every child, 18 and under, can come to one of our 5 daily locations for breakfast and lunch (Memorial Sports Center or the following schools: Mary Hogan School, Bridport, Salisbury and Ripton. See the balloons above for dates and times.)
- If you signed up to receive weekly meal kits instead of daily meals, pick up will be July 7-Aug 4th on Thursdays from 7-8 or 3-4 at Middlebury Union High School. You will receive an email for pickup.
Electronic Forms are Coming Soon!
Next school year we will use electronic forms in PowerSchool! This means many of the forms you fill out and return on paper (like field trip permissions and health authorizations) can be filled out online!
- If you already use PowerSchool (most MUHS families), these forms will become available when you login later this summer.
- If you do not currently use powerschool (most MUMS and Elementary families), in early August we will send an email with log in information and a separate email with a username and password. We also posted the "How To" document on the ACSD Home page HERE.
You may have heard, there will be new AmTrak train service from Burlington to NYC beginning July 29! Since the train service will come through our Addison Central School District, The Vermont Agency of Transportation and Operation Lifesaver of Vermont, Inc. prepared a short video for families to watch together to ensure everyone knows what they need to make safe choices around trains.

ACSD School Board Updates
The ACSD Board has released its Educational and Facilities Planning Report to the community. You can read the full report by clicking the photo (left). A hard copy will also be available at ACSD school offices, ACSD Member Town Offices and Library Directors, and Directors of PreK programs serving ACSD families or can be requested by contacting ACSD Central Office at 802-382-1274.
The final report compiles information generated during ACSD’s multi-year facilities planning process, and includes:
- A summary of the driving forces behind the Facilities Master Planning process;
- A comprehensive review of the process that was followed;
- Summaries of facilities assessments that have been completed, reconfiguration possibilities that have been explored, the Board’s findings to date; and
- Key takeaways with an outline of the work that remains to be done before a capital improvement plan can be finalized.
Although the report does not offer a prescriptive plan for capital improvements or reconfiguration of ACSD schools, it does confirm that we must take action to address our aging infrastructure and identify solutions that will function within the limitations of both ACSD’s and Vermont’s fiscal realities. Site condition summaries for each ACSD school are detailed in Section D of the document.
The report also discusses concerns regarding the equitable distribution of educational resources across our District, as well as imbalances in student access to educational programming opportunities and consistent support services. The Board is currently exploring these and other District-wide equity concerns in its Strategic Plan for Equity, and intends to coordinate future facilities planning with the results of this strategic planning work.
The Board intends to conduct additional community engagement to inform further ACSD facilities planning in the early fall of 2022. In the meantime, questions about the Educational and Facilities Planning Report can be directed to the board at 802-382-1700, or emailed to Board Chair Victoria Jette at vjette@acsdvt.org and Facilities Committee Chair Jennifer Nuceder at jmnuceder@acsdvt.org. A Board member will also hold virtual office hours from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29th, July 6th, and July 27th to take questions from the community. Please contact Mary Heather Noble at mnoble@acsdvt.org to request a zoom link for virtual office hours.
We are working to meet the communication needs of all ACSD families and thank you for taking 5-10 mins to fill out this survey! Click the button above or HERE to take the survey.
