Clubs Experience #SLExD
To begin - it is a district initiative that we provide students with the opportunities to be involved in extracurricular clubs. This is difficult to achieve after school because more than half of our children have to leave at dismissal. With the current format 100% of our students get to be a part of a club.
Experience Design - The CLUBS initiative was created to support our efforts to provide authentic experiences for our students. Students may not know, but while participating in the CLUBS they are learning. Each club is targeting skills that help students make connections to our state TEKS. Yes, even in my BINGO club we are integrating math, social studies, and reading as well as providing students with opportunities to develop listening and problem solving skills. Your students just think they are having fun, which means we have done a good job planning, because learning should be fun.
Student Voice - It is also a district initiative that we listen to our students and respond based on their feedback. We took a survey of students to determine their interests and then created clubs based on this. Next, ALL students got to choose their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice. This has been an amazing life lesson for students since we do not always get our 1st choice in the real world. It has been exciting to watch those who did not get their 1st choice, because it turns out they have really enjoyed their club.
Effective Communicators - Students are enrolled in their clubs by interest, but they are also multi-age groups. This was intentional so that students have the chance to learn from friends in different grade levels and also have the opportunity to lead within the groups. In addition, the students were assigned to a club sponsor who would have the awesome privilege of teaching and connecting with them for all 4 CLUB meetings. Research shows that students who have the opportunity to connect with multiple adults at school will be more successful. Many of our students are participating in a CLUB with an adult that they might have never met without this opportunity.
We will meet with our CLUBS 4 times in the Spring and then survey our students about what went well and what they would like to see in our line-up for next year!
If you have questions about our CLUBS, my door is always open and I would love your feedback.

GCISD TRANSFERS
Requests for school transfers are made through an online system at designated times of the year. For more information or assistance, contact Patty Sabol (patricia.sabol@gcisd.net).
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, families that reside within GCISD boundaries or live in the cities of Colleyville and Grapevine but are zoned for another school district, may apply for the transfer lottery. On Monday, January 23, Trustees approved changes to local board policies that impact the GCISD student transfer process for residents and nonresidents. In previous years, families interested in applying for a transfer were admitted based on the order in which the application was received and if they met specific board criteria for the transfer.
From March 20 - April 21, families may submit their transfer application for the lottery. While the district will accept all transfer applications, students will only be granted transfers to campuses and grade-levels that can accept more students without going over capacity. Decisions about capacity will be made later in the semester or this summer depending on student registration and enrollment projections. The transfer lottery will be streamed live during the week of April 24.
Students applying to a Special Program will not participate in the transfer lottery. They will instead take part in the separate Special Programs Lottery. If your student applies for a special program and is not selected during that lottery, then you may submit a request through the transfer lottery. (Learn more about the Special Programs Lottery)
