The Principal's Den
You will be receiving the letter below from SVES PTA President Sam Meaney about "Love Letters to Austin." Be sure and check out their Facebook page and if possible, please get involved. Your voice truly makes a difference! https://www.facebook.com/LoveLetterstoAustin/
Advocacy for children is a major component of the PTA mission. Most of this work is done on a state and national level. As your school’s PTA, we are concerned about Keller ISD’s low level of funding and potential threats to future funding. Although Keller ISD performs in the top 15% academically, the district is funded in the bottom 20% of Texas school districts. Keller ISD spends less money per student than Birdville ISD, Carroll ISD, Colleyville-Grapevine ISD, Coppell ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Lewisville ISD, and Northwest ISD. Imagine the schools we could have with more favorable funding.
“Love Letters to Austin” is an advocacy effort to promote better school funding for Keller ISD. Students will be asked to sign one of these conversation hearts:
- Great schools require great funding. Keller ISD
- Fair funding for Keller ISD
- Protect our public school. Keller ISD
- Dear Representatives, Please send Keller ISD more money!
- Help me be the best I can be! Keller ISD
- Support our schools! Keller ISD
- I love my school! Keller ISD
These signed hearts will be sent to our Texas House and Senate representatives for the 85th Texas Legislative Session, currently taking place in Austin through May 29th.
If you do not wish for your child to sign one of these conversation hearts, please let your child’s teacher know by March 8th.
Please be on the lookout for upcoming letter signing and writing opportunities for parents. The more “Love Letters” we send to Austin, the more likely we will have better funding for our children.
