Information Literacy: The Basics!
What you need to know to be productive in the 21st Century!
Online Information....Is it Reliable?
Tips for Deciding if a Site is Trustworthy:
- Is the author listed on the information?
- Does the author have a positive reputation?
- Is there a date? Does the date show the information is current?
- Is the domain credible? (.com, .edu, .gov)
- Is the website well designed?
- Is the writing grammatically and linguistically correct?
Thinking Critically when evaluating a website...
- Does someone or an organization benefit from this information?
- Does this information sound biased towards one side or another?
- Can you tell the author has an opinion?
- Does the heading or headline match the information in the body?
- Does the information conflict with something you know to be true?
Avoiding Fake News Sites...
- Think before you click...
- Bookmark your favorite news sources
- Watch for domains with COM [text] in them
- Go directly to the news source
- Stay security savvy
- Use reliable search tools
