Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we highlight author:
Born on the California coast with Mexican parents, Matt de la Pena was a reluctant reader who excelled in Basketball. His mom made him a deal that if he did better at school he would be allowed to play basketball. This plan worked, and Matt earned an athletic scholarship to the University of the Pacific. Without his knowledge, his professors submitted his application to graduate school where he earned a degree in creative writing. Matt has written a number of YA and middle school novels which focus on identity and racial awakening. To read any of Matt’s books, stop by the library.
- Our Varsity Volleyball team lost in three sets to a very strong Hendrick Hudson team. The team was led in kills by Tara Klami, Linette Kupfer and Greta Wuerrffel. The team was led in digs by Lizbeth Patino and Linette Kupfer. The team will be on the road at Lakeland HS on Tuesday.
- Our Varsity Field Hockey team played a great game yesterday against Nyack, ending in a 1-1 tie. Strong play by the entire team against a league opponent. Up next on Monday the team will host Somers.
- Our Varsity Swim team won the meet against Bronxville, continuing the win streak, bringing the streak to 6-0. Strong swim times by the entire SHEDI team. The team will host New Rochelle at the EF Pool on Thursday.
