Optimist Student of the Month: Sebastian L
We have the honor and privilege to partner with Windsor Optimist Club. Each month a Windsor Middle School student is selected as an "Optimist Student of the Month." These students are recognized for exhibiting optimism and being a role model for others. Our very first Optimist Student of the 2023-24 school year for the month of September is Sebastian!
One of his nominations read, "I can’t think of an eighth grader who is more optimistic and uplifting to others than Sebastian. I am fortunate to have Sebastian in two of my classes during the day, and he consistently has a positive outlook about life and impacts others in so many ways. Recently, I was teaching a lesson that required my classroom furniture to be moved around, and asked for help. Sebastian was the one student who was at my door as soon as the bell rang and made the morning much easier for me as well as his classmates. Not only is Sebastian someone who positively impacts others, he understands the value of work and knows that through work greatness can come. Sebastian will go far in life because he understands what matters -- positivity, work ethic and a smile." Congratulations, Sebastian!
SRO Student of the Week: Matty L.
"He went out of his way and was very helpful in opening a student locker for them when they weren't feeling well and needed to get their backpack to go home."
"He is always showing kindness towards his classmates. He goes the extra mile to help peers."

What's Happening Around WMS?
Windsor Middle School's BIONIC Club (Believe It Or Not I Care) is selling socks for a cause.
When someone in a developing country becomes an amputee – they quickly come to realize they have lost much more than a limb. The loss of a limb is just the first loss in a cycle of loss that often includes their job, social standing, self-worth, family, dignity, and finally their humanity. Let’s break that cycle!
Most of us don’t even think about it. We take thousands of steps every day. It’s just a part of life.
But for millions of amputees throughout the developing world, the possibility of taking a single step is just a dream.
WMS's BIONIC club started the sock campaign to help give amputees around the world a second chance at life by providing them with a leg system that is high-quality and costs less than the cell phone that we carry around in our pockets every day.
Also: For every pack sold, we will receive a pair of socks to donate to people in need within our own community!

We thank you for your support,
WMS BIONIC and Mrs. Brandl

School Accountability Committee (SAC) Meeting
We hosted our first School Accountability Committee (SAC) Meeting of the 2023-24 school year. Our School Accountability Committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss our School Improvement Plan, budgets, attendance, college & career readiness, in addition to other topics. In this meeting, we looked at our Spring 2023 CMAS scores and determined some areas of focus.
The SAC is comprised of various stakeholders and is responsible for looking at data to provide feedback to our Leadership Team. If you'd like to join this committee, please email our principal, Elizabeth Urich, at elizabeth.urich@weldre4.org.
A Note From The Health Office
Just a reminder, we need updated immunization records or immunization exemption forms turned in to the health office by October 30! If we don't have one or the other we will have to call home, as the students won't be able to be at school without that documentation.
District Awarded Local Food Program Grant
We’re excited to announce we’ve been selected as a recipient of the Local Food Program Grant, a program that connects Colorado food producers with local school districts. We look forward to providing more fresh and wholesome, high quality products for our students this year. Our partners will help us serve up more delicious and tasty local fresh fruits, lettuce, and beans this year. It’s a win-win-win for students, the economy, and our local community. LEARN MORE
Attention Students!
Due to the frequency of WHS students bringing food and Dutch Bro's over to WMS for their friends/siblings-we are no longer going to accept items unless it is brought by a parent. We will not call students out of classes to receive food or drink and if drinks are dropped off they will not be able to be picked up till the end of the day. We ask that WHS students please stay off the WMS campus (including fields) during our school hours (8:25-3:55).
Thank you for your understanding.
EMPOWER Applications Open Through September 29
We’re excited to announce that a new EMPOWER cohort will begin October 26. This community engagement program provides an in-depth and behind-the-scenes look at various facets of our district. At seven monthly sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to learn about a different topic, experience demonstrations or tours from students and staff, and engage in dialogue and Q&As. To learn more or to apply, visit our webpage.

VOLUNTEER COACHING INFORMATION
There are a few steps to volunteering as a Coach at WMS. The first step is to speak with the Head Coach of the sport you want to participate in. When that coach approves you, he or she will send a note to Mr. Cox, our Athletic Director, informing him of the potential volunteer, and that the coach has met the potential volunteer and has a plan for that volunteer to help our program. The potential volunteer will then need to come see Mr. Cox to get a Volunteer Coaching form. You will need that form in order to complete an application to volunteer on our RAPTOR system. Once you have the form, go to RAPTOR and fill out the volunteer application. When you are approved, you will be in the system and are then able to work with our athletes.
Please call Mr. Cox if you have any questions, or need help working through the process, at (970) 686-8219.
