Welcome Frank Parent! New Science Teacher
I am Mr. Parent, and I am a recent transplant to Michigan from Houston, TX. I graduated with a Geology degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. I started my career as a teacher at South Hills High School in Fort Worth, teaching regular and honors physics. I then spent two years at Texans Can Academies teaching physics, and chemistry. I taught Biology at Western International High School in Detroit before becoming a science teacher at Avondale Academy.

Please save these dates and make sure your students arrive on time on these days to school.
Some seniors who did not test last year will need to test this year.
OK2SAY/Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative (CSI) Presentation will be on 2/14/2018
The Michigan CSI program teaches students the importance of making safe and wise choices in a technologically evolving world. OK2SAY shows students how to protect themselves and those around them by encouraging confidential tips on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees, and schools.

TEST OUT POLICY
Michigan law provides opportunities for high school students to demonstrate content mastery of a particular course by successfully completing and scoring well on a single test or series of tests created by the subject area department. These tests will be given twice each school year at the high school. Students are required to satisfy the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC).

DOING GOOD ON SAT'S PAYS
As SAT testing is coming up soon please encourage your child to do their best on their tests. Doing good on SAT's can pay in several ways.
1. SAT scores are often used as part of the admission process for many colleges.
2. Colleges often have scholarships that students automatically qualify for if they meet a certain SAT and GPA requirement
3. Students can qualify for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship: If a student scored a 1200 or higher on their SAT, they may qualify for a Michigan Competitive Scholarship (MCS) award of up to $1,000! Students must also demonstrate financial need, determined by their (FAFSA), which must be submitted annually before March 1st.
To check your eligibility after testing, please contact their office at 1-888-447-2687 and provide one of our customer service representatives with your SSN. You can also check out the MiSSG Student Portal at www.michigan.gov/missg to see if you have already been awarded.

- Payment due no later than May 4th. Student will not receive their Cap and Gown until payment is made, $32.00 CASH ONLY.

ASVAB RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH
We will be offering free ASVAB testing for any 11th or 12th grade student interested in participating in testing on this Friday 1-26-2018 during Flex Friday at school. Students need to pick up a permission slip and have it returned to our counseling department ASAP.
