School Board Highlights
June 21, 2022
Abatement of Working Cash Fund The Board held a public hearing on the abatement of a portion of the working cash fund to the Operations and Maintenance fund in FY 2022. The Board approved the amount to be transferred of $136,283, which covers three projects that were done during the 2021-2022 school year and logically belong in the capital projects fund; storm water completion at DW, outdoor space creation outside DW cafeteria, and additional paving needed at DW to adequately accommodate the bus and van fleet. Policy Updates The Board reviewed the policy updates for a second reading. The discipline policy is being amended to allow students to have phones at school as long as they are turned off and in their lockers during the school day. The Board will take action on the policies at the July meeting. Budget Discussion The Board discussed the updated tentative 2022-2023 budget. Expenses are budgeted at $38.05 million. Revenue is budgeted at $38.61 million. With these changes, the surplus of the overall budget for the Fiscal Year of 2022-2023 is $559,222.20. The Board will hold a public hearing on the budget at its July 12 board meeting followed by action on the budget. Aide Compensation 2022-2023 The Board reviewed information regarding increases to the district’s aide compensation for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. There is a $1.50 per hour increase proposed for all general education aides after a 3.5 percent raise is applied. Under the new guidelines, the base rate for general education aides would be $16.50 per hour and $17.26 per hour for special education aides. Additional compensation will be given for experience and credit toward higher education. The Board will take action on the aide compensation package at a future meeting.
