Macbeth Act 5 Scene 1
2010 Rupert Goold vs 1948 Orson Welles
Out Damn'd Spot
The 2010 Rupert Goold version of Macbeth has Lady Macbeth inside the castle literally washing her hands. The Orson Welles version has her outside the castle on the staircase pretending to wash her hands. The book has Lady Macbeth inside the castle pretending to wash her hands. Both films are equally accurate to the book but if i had to pick one, I would pick the Orson Welles. This is because the book says that Lady Macbeth pretends to wash her hands to wash off the guilt, the film shows the same thing and not literally washing her hands. I personally liked the Rupert Goold version better because I thought it was easier to understand and demonatrated very well on how the characters could have reacted.
2 Similarities, 1 Difference
Brief Explanation
A difference I noticed between the two versions was the setting. The Rupert was being held inside while the Orson version was outside in the staircase. Another difference was that Lady Macbeth was literally washing her hands in the Rupert version while Orson's version was pretending. One similarity is that both versions did convey the message that they tried to say.
