VS School Goal - T4 2021

Kia ora koutou to our Vogeltown whanau and welcome to the end of Week 4 of Term 4 for 2021, another fantastic week of learning!

It was great to finish this week with our traditional hangi and Yr 6 sleepover - it was nice to be able to provide at least one tradition in a year of cancellations. Unfortunately we could not involve our community with the hangi - lets hope 2022 allows us this opportunity again!

Massive thanks to the Paetoki teaching team and the awesome Paetoki learners for the Hangi - the dedication the teachers show to our school and the kids is outstanding! Big thanks to our community for the donations, we were once again overwhelmed - Tu Meke.

We have enjoyed a week of changes. Our Junior school has enjoyed the new 'Hauora time' that we do at 10am each day. This is a 10 minute fitness slot designed to break up the long morning of hard mahi.

The Yr 6 learners also got to do some lifesaving skills at the Todd Energy Aquatic centre. A big thanks to AWE for sponsoring this for our learners again this year.

As we move through the weeks, we continue to try and offer 'normality' to our learners. Some things we can not do at Level 2, whilst some things we have had to adapt. We will be using the power of digital technology to help us share a lot of these events. For instance we are going to 'Facebook Live' the Talent Quest Finals this year. We are also going to 'Facebook Live' the Vogeltowner assembly and the Yr 6 leavers assembly.

Next week I will share with you the staffing for 2022. We have had a couple of changes for next year, and we are excited about our teaching team for 2022. All our learners will know which class they will be in on their final report for the year. They will also get a chance to meet their new teacher for 2022 on the last Monday of this term.

Please, if you can give up 5 minutes, please give us some feedback in the Whanau Hui survey below - we really would like some feedback.

Nga mihi nui

Mr O and the VS team

Today your child will bring home an extra 'paper notice'. This notice is to inform everyone as to how we are going to operate at Vogeltown with the new vaccination mandate.

We will be having a Hells Pizza lunch on Friday 26 November. All orders for pizzas must be made through Kindo - this will be the only way to order.

If you haven't signed up for a Kindo account then now is the time to do this, and it's really easy!

Just go to http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/kindo-shop/ and follow the instructions.

A big thanks to everyone for supporting this challenge! We are currently (as of printing this) we are in 4th place. I know we can win this with the trips being totalled and logged today!

The class with the most 'fresh air' points will get a pizza lunch! We might even get some school prizes as we compete with other local schools

Thanks for making that extra effort with getting to school in a 'non car' way the last 2 weeks, the weather certainly helped!

TE REO FOCUS - WEEK 4, T4 2021

Our focus for the last 2 weeks has been the Hangi.

Click on the link to find out how to make a hangi. There are a lot of moving parts for a hangi, more than you would think! The pay off is after all your hard work, you have a wonderful feed of kai at the end. Tu Meke!

Well after a couple of months of planning, designing and choosing how our new school sweatshirt will look, we have come up with an awesome design!

A massive thanks to our class reps who helped design this alongside Jai Huta who owns Game Changer. Game Changer is a local store just up the road from us on Huatoki Street, and it is great we can do this locally!

Jai let us in to his shop to look at designs and work with him to come up with a brilliant sweatshirt!

The sweatshirt is 'sub-laminated' - have a look at the Game Changer online store to get a real look at this sweatshirt. They are lined inside so they will be nice and warm in the winter!

You will notice that on the back of the sweatshirt we have a 'Tohu'. This Maori motif was designed by another local teacher - Mr Phil Hoskin, and it has great meaning to our school. Massive thanks to Matua Phil for his design which he has 'gifted' our school. Tu Meke Phil.

The sweatshirts are $69 each and can be ordered from their online store (www.gamechanger.co.nz). You can have your name or initials on the sweatshirt for no extra cost.
