Hillside Enrichment
At Home
Welcome!
Do you want your children to have opportunities to build, make, and be creative at home? Are you concerned about your child spending so much time on technology? New challenges will be released at the beginning of the week, but you may submit responses on any day.
Answers are now posted for previous Word Wednesday and Thinking Thursday prompts on the "View Successful Solvers" document. To access the document with the links, click the picture below.

Earth Day Options for Any Age!
Hands-On Science: Oil Spill Clean-Up
Use this worksheet to guide you as you test strategies that scientists use to clean up oil spills. With water, cooking oil, cotton balls, a spoon, and soap, challenge yourself to have the most successful clean-up. Limit your time on each strategy to 5 minutes, which is more than enough. For families with multiple children, you can choose to have them work on the same oil spill or each have their own. I recommend supervising children for cleanliness purposes or doing this inquiry alongside them!
Plant a Seed
Happy Spring! Plant outdoors or do an experiment indoors. Plant 3 seeds in two cups. Place one in a sunny spot and one with no sun. Be sure to give them the water they need. Track their growth!
Watercolor Earth
71% of the Earth’s surface is made up of water. The other 29% is made up of continents and islands. Use a coffee filter, square of toilet paper, napkin, or paper towel as the Earth. You can use watercolors, paint, marker dots with spray water, or food coloring in water to complete your Earth design. Place the paint in a pattern of 7 drops of blue, then 3 drops of green, and repeat this pattern until the earth is completely covered.
