School iPads

They're here....the SMSD Mill Creek issued iPads are now in the hands of your children (3rd-6th graders). JCPRD has discussed with both school and district administration on how best to handle these amazing technological devices while your child(ren) are in the JCPRD Out of School Time program. The admin team is in favor of keeping the iPads in the student's backpacks while they are in the OST program. 3rd-6th grade will meet in the JCPRD room, #002, upon dismissal and place backpacks in baskets in closet area. Students are only allowed in that area supervised when retrieving/returning homework or leaving for the day. At this time JCPRD will continue to be a screen free environment, iPad homework will need to be supervised at home. If you feel that you would rather have your child's iPad locked up, JCPRD will have that availability. You will need to email the director at to give permission to do this and to have a conversation with your child(ren) about this.

It will be the responsibility of the students and parents to check iPads back to the students when picked up.

Keeping the iPads in the backpacks helps make sure the correct tablet gets to the right student, taken home nightly, and keeps staff in ratio and engaged with the children. If you have any questions or concerns please call 913.599.5785 or email at the above address. This will be a work in progress, your suggestions, concerns, and comments are welcomed.

Participation in the program is a privilege, not a right. The ability of each participant to consistently practice positive life skills is essential to ongoing enrollment. The following set of non-negotiable standards for participation is designed to allow participants to self-regulate behavior. 1.) Respect the right of others to courtesy and personal space. 2.) Manage anger in appropriate ways. 3.) Respect and respond to adult authority. 4.) Accept differences among the group. 5.) Accept responsibility for own actions. These are reasonable expectations for any child participating in a group program setting. The actions of each individual influence the quality of participation for the entire group. Our goal is to facilitate successful participation for each child through the joint understanding, support, and practice of these positive life skills.
