for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors - Now Open!

Are you someone who wants to help shape the 2020-2021 school year for your children? Are you enthusiastic about our school and its students? Do you have good people skills? Are you ready to be part of an amazing group of dedicated and talented parents? Then the Dyer Elementary PTO Board of Directors is the place for you!
We are currently looking for nominations (you may nominate yourself or others) for the following Board of Directors Positions:
- Director
- Assistant Director
- Communications Secretary
- Recording Secretary
- Treasurer
- Assistant Treasurer
To nominate yourself (or someone else), simply fill out this electronic nomination form. You may submit as many nominations as you like.
Nominations are due by Friday, 3/20/20
Elections will be held at the PTO's General Membership on Friday, May 1st at 3:15PM.

Information Regarding PTO Board of Directors and Elections
Section 2: TERM OF OFFICE - The term of office for all officers is one year, beginning immediately upon election, and ending upon officer election the following school year. However, previous board members shall attend the first board meeting to transfer all pertinent information from their position. The previous board members are only at the meeting in an advisement position and shall have no voting rights at this meeting. Board members can serve for no more that two consecutive terms at one position and no more than a total of three years on the Board of Directors.
Section 3: QUALIFICATIONS - Any PTO member in good standing may become an officer of the PTO
Section 4: DUTIES - Officers understand and agree to uphold these Bylaws.
Board of Directors - Develop the PTO’s annual budget, establish and oversee committees to conduct the work of the PTO, and establish fundraising programs. The Board may only approve by majority vote expenditures of no more that $100 per line item and not to exceed $500 per school year over the approved budget. The Board shall meet monthly during the school year, or at the discretion of the Director. All officers shall attend general PTO meetings and Board of Director meetings. If any officer fails to attend the 2 General PTO meetings or 3 consecutive Board of Directors meetings, he/she may be removed from office. Upon expiration of any officer’s term of office or in the case of resignation, each officer shall turn over to the Director, without delay, and in good order, all records, books, and other materials pertaining to the office, and shall return to the Treasurer, without delay, all funds pertaining to the office. At least one Board of Directors member should strive to oversee major events.
Director - 1. Shall preside over meetings of the general PTO and Board of Directors. 2. Develop agenda for all General Membership and Board of Director meetings and provide it to the Recording Secretary at least 3 days in advance of any meeting. 3. Be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nomination committee or bylaw committee. 4. Coordinate, with the Assistant Director, the establishment of committees in order that the PTO objectives and mission may be promoted. 5. Supervise all activities of the organization and perform such other duties as prescribed in these bylaws or assigned by the organization.
Assistant Director - 1. Shall assist the Director and perform the duties of the Director in their absence or inability to serve. 2. Coordinate the listing of volunteers for each committee, and work with the committee chairs to make sure they understand their duties, PTO objectives, and the PTO mission. 3. Be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee and bylaw committee. 4. Perform such other duties as are assigned by the Director or the Board of Directors
Recording Secretary - Takes and reads or distributes the minutes of PTO meetings and Executive Board meetings. 2. Works with the President to prepare meeting agendas, maintains the membership roster, committee rosters, holds all historical records and maintains all PTO records. 3. Keeps a copy of the minutes book, bylaws, rules, membership list, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings. 4. The recording secretary may be called upon to fulfill the role of corresponding secretary in the corresponding secretary absence.
Corresponding Secretary - 1. Writes official PTO correspondence and meeting notices. 2. Manage communications and marketing for the PTO including, but not limited to PTO newsletters, email broadcasts, website, bulletin boards, social media, etc. 3. The corresponding secretary may be called upon to fulfill the role of recording secretary in the recording secretary’s absence.
Treasurer - 1. Have charge of and be responsible for all funds of the organization and shall receive and give receipts for monies due and payable to the organization from all sources. 2. Make disbursements as authorized by the membership in accordance with the budget adopted by the organization. 3. Keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures and present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times when requested by the Executive Board. 4. As the outgoing Treasurer, make a full financial report at the first Board of Directors meeting at which new officers officially assume their duties. 5. Treasurer prepares and presents the preliminary PTO budget at the General Membership meeting and presents any adjustments to the budget thereafter. 6. Be responsible for creating and publishing the monthly report of income and expenses, 7. Perform all duties incident to the office of Treasurer and such duties as may be assigned by the Director or Board of Directors.
Assistant Treasurer - 1.The assistant treasurer receives, records, and deposits PTO funds. 2. The assistant treasurer assists the treasurer in all financial activities of the PTO. Performs the duties of the treasurer when the treasurer is unavailable. 4. The assistant treasurer may not be related to or living in the same household as the Treasurer.
