#Resources from AMLE20

Big picture

I am still going through the many great resources and sessions that were a part of #AMLE20, and will be sharing a few each week. First up, the book that served as a basis for much of the programming.

The fifth edition of This We Believe, now titled The Successful Middle School, is now available. This can be used as a source for PD, a reference for crafting a mission and vision, or as a text for middle-level courses. Registrants of #AMLE20 received copies. For more information or to order, you can find these one-pagers on the AMLE website, or get a preview of the book from Rick Wormeli below.

Speaking of Rick Wormeli, I attended several of his sessions. This recent article incorporates some of the insights he shared, "Upsetting the Apple Cart Not Always a Bad Thing:

Pandemic Challenges to Schools Provide Opportunities to Invigorate and Transform Instruction and Assessment."

Opportunities to Read, Think, Make, and Create

In this post, Leslie Preddy, teacher librarian for Perry Meridian Middle School in Indianapolis, describes many ways she has impacted and engaged students both last spring and this semester. The post includes a 5-minute video with more details from her award-winning library program that has reached both in-person and remote students. It even includes adaptations inspired by her students. She will also be one of the presenters in the Makerspace webinar on October 28 mentioned below.

Play Quick Games with Your Students

With CrowdParty, you can easily play a game with your students. You can use their pre-made activities or make your own. Not as elaborate as Kahoot or Gimkit, but easier to throw in quickly. Host on a computer, play on computer or device.
