The Roadrunner Review
February 4th, 2022
Notes from the Principal
Our PTO and G2M coordinator have been busy planning a Riverview School Forest WinterFest scheduled on February 26th from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Please click here to rsvp to this special event and check out the flyer below.
In addition, we are now focusing on Habit 4 for Leader in Me, which is "Think Win-Win." Our focus this month is to think about how to fill each other's buckets. You are welcome to ask your children what a "bucket" means and what happens when we fill other people's buckets. Each classroom was tasked with coming up with one way in which they will fill other's buckets and we are displaying them on our bulletin board. Check it out below! In addition, our school will be creating Valentine's Day cards and delivering them to the Aspirus Hospital next week in an effort to fill buckets out in our community.

Flashlight Reading Was a blast!
A big thank you to the PTO for popping and delivering popcorn to our students for them to enjoy!
Notes from the Art room
This quarter students are using the end of our current season, and next season Spring as inspiration for artwork with the use of our art elements (Color, Space, Form, Value, Shape, Texture, Line). Winter and Spring are very different but have unique colors thanks to the changing of temperatures, light, sound, and texture. This quarter all students will be incorporating moments from our life and our environment into the artwork of 2 dimensions (drawings and paintings), plus 3-dimensional art using clay, paper mache, and other found objects to create 3D art. This is students' favorite season in art I have discovered! We will be having fun, making messes, learning and growing in art, and problem-solving skills. Students take from personal experience to add their voice and vision to their artworks. Don’t forget to ask your students about their learnings in art and their other encore subjects! Watch for images of their work via their Seesaw Art class posts and in the halls at school.
K-1 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Pattern, Space, Texture, and Form. Principles of Design such as Balance, Repetition, Contrast, Movement, and Proportion will come into the artwork this quarter. Projects include icons of Owls, Butterflies, shapes, abstract art, mice, gumballs, mittens, monsters, self, and fish.
2-3 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Value, Space, Form, and Texture. Students will also be learning about drawing and creating texture, sculpting form using clay and paper, and understanding how light affects color and shape/form at night. Principles of Design (which add more interest to their artwork) such as Emphasis, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, and White Space will be used. Projects include icons of abstract art, animals, mugs, snowmen, trees, rocks, a dot, donuts, winter barns.
4-5 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Value, Texture, Form, and Space. Students will also be learning about contemporary artists and how their ideas influence our work, historical time periods and how modern art is shaped by those concepts of progress in society, and how modern technology can aid in art-making. Principles of Design (which add more interest to their artwork) will be used including Emphasis, Balance, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, Scale, and Movement. Projects include icons of graffiti, cupcakes, Onomatopoeia, landscapes, gnomes, vessels, food, modern objects, and self.
Wausau School District Referendum Information
On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, residents of the Wausau School District will vote on a referendum question.
If approved by voters, the $119,800,000 million referendum would lower the tax levy, while at the same time allow the district to address its most pressing facility needs. The district would move forward with safety & security improvements at all elementary schools, as well as, adding additional classroom space at Stettin, South Mountain, and Riverview elementary schools to address increasing enrollment and alleviate capacity concerns. The district is also moving forward with all work at its middle and high schools; addressing deferred maintenance and safety and security needs there. It will also make facility improvements at the Wausau School Forest, including a new Environmental Learning Center.
An approved referendum would have an estimated property tax impact of negative $0.43 on every $1,000 of property value in the school district. The owner of a home valued at $150,000 would see an annual tax reduction of about $64.50.
The solution the Board of Education is presenting on April 5 was created based on the input and feedback of our community. This effort included online surveys for community and staff members, three community engagement sessions, staff listening sessions at all schools, and engagement on social media. We have also communicated and gathered feedback through a facility needs webpage and via the local media.
We invite you to learn more about our district’s needs, how the board developed the proposed solution, and the question that will appear on the April 5 ballot at wausauschools.org.

New COVID guidelines - January 2022
COVID-19 Testing - a New Option for WSD Families
The Wausau School District is now offering free PCR COVID-19 testing to all students, staff, and even their immediate family members.
Testing is now available, on a limited basis in a mobile unit. Below you will find a schedule that shows where the unit will be and when. Then, starting closer to December, ‘Wellness Cottages’ will open up on each school campus in the District, where that testing will be done. The cottages are currently being built.
Everyone who would like to receive that free test must fill out a consent form. The consent form for students is available below, it’s also available on our website.
It’s imperative that you know the District will not test students without parental consent. Instructions for registering your child to receive testing are below. Once parents and guardians fill out the consent form, they must return it to their child(ren)’s school.
All staff and immediate family members of students and staff who would like to receive that free testing, will give consent either at the mobile unit or at the Wellness Cottages when they open up.
You should also know this is all being done at absolutely no cost to the Wausau School District. In fact, the Department of Health Services is paying for it all -- including the testing of students, staff, and their immediate family members, along with paying for the staff who will administer the tests, the mobile unit, and the construction of the Wellness Cottages.
Bus Masking reminder
This is a gentle reminder that your student(s) is required to wear a mask on all school buses per a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) ruling. This ruling, which went into effect on August 20, will be in place until at least March 18, 2022.
If your student(s) is in need of a mask, all Wausau School District schools have them available. There are also masks on all First Student buses.
Thank you for your help!
Virtual Learning/Snow Days information
Here at Riverview, here are some items to remember:
- We will do our best to be proactive should inclement weather be predicted and send home all necessary materials including student iPads and classroom materials. This is also why we will be sending student iPads home on Fridays for all students.
- All students should plan to attend a classroom google meet at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Each google meet will last approximately 15 minutes. Google meet codes for each classroom will be shared through your class Seesaw.
- During the live google meet, classroom teachers will check in with students, explain the learning activities that students will be completing for the day and answer any questions that there may be.
- Each grade level will be assigned one encore activity through Seesaw. The grade level the child is in will determine what encore activity will be assigned. This activity will be something that students can complete on their own and should take about 15-20 minutes to complete.
- Depending on the child’s grade level additional learning activities will be assigned by the classroom teacher that a child should complete asynchronously/independently during the day. For K-2 this will be approximately an additional 15 minutes and for grades 3-5 this will be about 75 additional minutes.
- We understand that on inclement weather days, internet connections may not always be working. Please do your best to connect to the google meet, when possible. Also, if you are in need of a hot spot, you may check one out through our library. Please contact Mrs. Rodziewicz, our librarian, for more information.
It's Getting Cold Out....
If you are in need of winter gear for your child(ren), please contact Mrs. Payant at 715-261-0038
BUS Information
If you have recently signed up for your child to ride the bus, you must wait until you receive verification from the bus company, First Student. If you have any questions, please contact them directly.

Ipad Insurance
Please remember, if you have indicated you wish to accept the WSD iPad insurance, but have not sent the $10 (per device) payment, please send cash or check (made out to WSD) to the school office. Just a reminder, if payment is not received or insurance is declined; families assume the full cost of any and all repairs caused by misuse, abuse, or accident.
