Lindsey Weekly Update
Week of May 11, 2020
Mrs. Bellan's Message
What a fun week it has been seeing many of you participate in Spirit Week. The pictures have made us all very happy--we miss you very much!
We continue to plug along with online learning. Thank you for continuing to remain patient with us as we make adjustments, uncover new tools, and figure out how to deliver content that will meet with the needs of our students.
We recognize that many families are ready for a summer break. It appears the weather is finally going to let us know it is Spring!
I wanted to let you know some details about the school year coming to a close. Firstly, as a district, students grades 1-5 will be expected to complete the IXL diagnostic assessment in Reading and Mathematics before the end of the year. Your teacher will provide more details about that; however, I wanted to be sure to put this on your radar. The purpose of this diagnostic will provide us valuable summative information about where your child is ending this school year. This will help us with planning for next year as well as determining intervention supports needed.
Secondly, we are working on establishing a Parade/Clap out whereby our teachers can be socially distanced and families can drive through the parking lot and wave goodbye. The date has not yet been confirmed, as we are reaching out to the police department to ensure our tentative date is acceptable. As it currently stands, this would be held the last week in May. Additionally, we will provide a rain date. I will let you know the agreed upon date/time as well as communicate more details about the plan as they unfold.
Beginning the week of May 26th, I have asked the teachers to provide no new learning. Students may be wrapping up assignments, taking any end of the year assessments, or finishing up any outstanding work. The week of June 1st will be held in a similar fashion. All work is due by June 4th, as report cards will be shared on June 5th.
We are working to finalize details but supply pick up will be arranged by the week of June 1st.
Thank you for all of your grace, patience, and kindness.
Best,
Meagan Bellan
Attention Fifth Grade Families
We would like to put together a brief video of our 5th graders doing activities during the shutdown of school. Please submit one picture of your 5th grader doing a safe activity that they have found enjoyable while learning at home. This will help to memorialize our fifth graders who we will miss dearly. Send these pictures to Jim Kish, The Director of Public Relations and Development at jim.kish@westg.org or text to 440-465-5339. We will then compile the pictures into a video for all to enjoy.

Counselor's Corner
Hello Lindsey Families!
It seems like we are in the home stretch, and what a learning curve it has been! Hopefully with the nicer weather, our children will be able to enjoy some free time to relax outside.
Our 3-5 students are hopefully enjoying the career videos that are posted to Google Classroom, and are sharing their ideas and plans on Flip Grid. Our K-2 children are taking part in fun activities for One School, One Book. Even though we are "remote", we still look forward to interacting with our students!
Many parents have expressed concern with their children's anxiety. This is truly a very difficult time for us all. The absence of normalcy and routine can have very dramatic effects, especially with young children. Please keep the lines of communication open. Talking with your children, answering questions (as best as you can), and helping them to feel that they can come to adults with their fears and concerns is essential. Please always feel free to reach out to us, we are here for your families. I also found this article to be insightful and helpful.
