Weekly Update
Friday, March 5th, 2021
Dear Families,
Our first week of March has been a good one, although we recognize that students, staff and families are all feeling some "COVID-fatigue." Research shows that the first anniversary of traumatic events can be a time of heightened anxiety, stress and worry, and we are at the one-year mark of the beginning of COVID lockdowns and school closures in our province. It is very natural to feel a bit more tired and on-edge right now, and sometimes just realizing that this is a normal, human reaction to a traumatic event is reassuring. Below is a link to a short message from Kevin Cameron, who is the Executive Director for the North American Center for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response, describing the way that many of us are likely feeling right now, and the reasons why:

Students and staff continue to amaze us with their adapatiblity, their perseverance and their ability to be energetic and optimistic at school. The longer days and sunshine this week certainly helped, and we are going to keep this positive momentum going with some school spirit days! Next Thursday, March 11th will be "Dress As Your Favourite Book Character Day"...students have all been reading wonderful "Forest of Reading" books, and we want to give them a chance to share their love of literature! We look forward to seeing some classic characters, as well as some of the new favourites.
Thank you to Mme Clarke, who has organized a Virtual Scholastic Book Fair! The Book Fair will take place from March 15th to March 21st, and we know that students will be excited to view all of the wonderful titles, order some new books, or let their teachers know which books they feel should be ordered for our library for all to enjoy! There is detailed information about the Virtual Book Fair provided below. Un grand merci, Mme Clarke :)
We have decided to do a "Fake March Break" the week of March 15th-19th. Here is a list of the special days planned:
Monday, March 15th: PJ and "Drop Everything and Read" Day (to kick off our Virtual Book Fair Week -- wear your favourite jammies, but please leave the stuffies at home!)
Tuesday, March 16th: Spy Day (staff have a plan to include some opportunities for students to crack hidden codes and discover secret messages...we are pretty excited about this one!)
Wednesday, March 17th: St. Patrick's Day
Thursday, March 18th: Inside Out & Backwards Day (staff are planning to focus on games and arts projects to make this a creative and fun day!)
Friday, March 19th: Hawk Spirit and Movie Day
Un grand merci à Mme Creighton, Ms. Kivistik et les elèves de la 6ième année pour avoir organisé cette semaine d'esprit!
A reminder that all students must complete the COVID Self Screener each morning, and if any symptoms are present must stay home (siblings too) and follow Public Health direction. Detailed information can be found on the LDSB website: https://www.limestone.on.ca/news/what_s_new/ministry_revises_c_o_v_i_d-19_screening_tool
To help you put a little skip in your step, please enjoy a moment of camaraderie, fun, great dancing and pizzazz from our Intermediate students (who participated in a Virtual Class Dance-off this week!) Thanks, Mr. Morrison & Mr. Nicholls, and thanks to our Grade 7&8 students who set such a great tone and are wonderful role models for all of the 'little ones'!
