Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable break together as a family last week. It has been great getting back into the swing of school and we look forward to finishing the last six weeks strong. We have a great deal going on at CCES and in the community during this time of the year.
First up, I want to remind you that we are changing our after school service provider next year from the traditional YMCA Primetime that we have now to a program called Right At School. I see this as having minimal impact on families and based on initial meetings and presentations, I think you will be very pleased with what they offer. An email was sent to families the Friday we went on Spring Break, so make sure to go back and review that for more details. We have an upcoming parent meeting on April 24th at 6:00 in the Media Center. This is for any parent interested in learning more about the new program. Several other schools will also be making this transition including: Mountain Park, New Prospect, Spaulding Drive, and Heards Ferry.
Next, I want to remind you of the annual Taste of Alpharetta which is coming up on May 2nd from 5-10 p.m. In order to prepare for the event, road closures will occur in the area beginning in the early morning hours. Please see attachment. This is always a great event and we know many families participate. I just wanted to help spread the word as traffic and roads will be impacted in our area.
Congratulations to fifth grader, Patmon Malcom, who won 2nd place in Augusta last weekend at the Drive, Chip, Putt Championship. This is a national event and we are so proud of Patmon for placing second in his age group. He has a special talent in the field of golf and who knows, one day we may see him on the big screen just like Tiger Woods!
Tomorrow is the Colt’s Cup and time to work in our green spaces on campus. We look forward to seeing our families at one or both events. I will be here early opening the school and supervising the race and Ms. Haltrecht will be closing up and finishing with the green space crowd.
This year we are doing something a bit differently than in years past. We are combining our Volunteer Recognition with Field Day. We plan to use that day as a time to thank everyone who plays a big or small role in helping or giving back to our school in any way. We will not be having a separate reception for recognition this year. We hope you can join us on May 15th and be recognized if possible during the lunch hours.
Enjoy your weekend! We look forward to our Colts in grades 3-5 rocking the Georgia Milestones beginning Monday!
March Employees of the Month
Gandhi, our technology specialist, handles anything computer related. He assists our staff in troubleshooting devices most days. As we gear up for testing, we know he will play an integral part in assisting with any glitches that may come our way. He is an expert and so easy to work with! We appreciate these two talented staff members.

Think First & Stay Safe Program
In April, Ms. Lundy, our School Counselor, will deliver The Think First & Stay Safe™ program to our students. Think First & Stay Safe™ is a research-based program that teaches specific personal safety education by way of interactive classroom lessons, classroom posters, role-plays and corresponding activities. If you prefer that your child NOT participate in the Think First & Stay Safe™ program, please sign the OPT-OUT form that has been sent home with your child to OPT-OUT of the lessons and send it to your child’s teacher or school counselor. As always, our administration and counselor is available to discuss any questions you may have about the Think First & Stay Safe™ curriculum. Unless written opt out documentation is received by April 19, 2019, your child will participate in the Think First & Stay Safe™ program.
georgia Milestones testing 4/15/19 - 5/14/19
The Georgia Milestones testing window will open on April 15th, 2019. Georgia Milestones will measure how well students have mastered content and skills outlined in the state-adopted standards in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The results are used for evaluation, decision-making, and instructional improvement. On March 7th, the district will conduct a system technology check where students will participate in a practice test. Students in 3rd and 5th grade will be taking the Georgia Milestones on the same dates and times in April. Students in 4th grade will take the test the first week of May. In addition to the longer testing window, students will only take one section of each content area per day except for Social Studies and Science in 5th grade. Although there are makeup testing days scheduled at the end of each grade levels completion, if time permits during the testing window, rolling makeups will take place in the afternoon.
