Language Arts
Writing - This is a class of very strong writers! The kids love Writer's Workshop and are so eager to share their successes. We continue to focus on habits of good writers like using our tools, organizing our work, and never giving up. Our literacy coach, Mrs. Myrick, will be in our class this week to begin Author's Conference. She and I will conference with students individually to compliment and guide our young writers.
Spelling
Tests are each Friday. I have finally recorded all the data from past spelling tests and I appreciate your patience! Those tests will come home this week.

Also look for a Spelling Homework Menu in your child's folder. This is a list of activities your child can do at home to "spice up" their practice choices.
Math
We have begun our understanding of tens and ones place value and continue to build upon our fact fluency. Each day we have a number talk and discuss the most efficient problem solving strategies. Our math coach, Mrs. Johnson, will be in the classroom this week to help our mathematicians make connections between addition and subtraction.
3D or Solid Shapes
We will continue to study 3D shapes. The kids have made 3D shapes with paper, the favorite being the cube. One student exclaimed, "It's just like brick in Minecraft!" It's wonderful to see the connections they make to what we are learning in school.
Thank you for the wrapped mystery boxes! The kids loved guessing and unwrapping the 3D shapes that hold things like GoGo Squeeze, muffins, fabric softener, baby food, and Legos!
Moby Max
This is a great online math tool that your kids can use at home. I've registered all our kiddos and their usernames/passwords will come home in folders this week.
