Good to Great: Taking a Minute to Celebrate
Over the course of the last couple weeks, our teachers have prepared and reviewed for benchmarks and check-ins. Students have worked hard to show us what they know and celebrate their knowledge. Let me be clear: our students are not test scores. Their worth is not defined by an EOG and the value of our teachers is not defined by a collective number. Those test scores..those numbers...they help us gauge the learning and growth that is happening in the school. When we conduct benchmarks, we receive information about how well we have taught each standard and what we can improve upon. Big data, informed by EVAAS, says approximately 40% of our students will score a level 3 or higher on the EOG at the end of this school year. The data we have right now indicates that we are hovering around the 75% proficient mark. This is outstanding news and it is a testament to each and every individual in this building. It is a testament to those teachers, PK-5, who work tirelessly to plan those just right lessons. It is a testament to those teachers who take time to regularly sit down with their students and review their progress, set goals, and help them track their growth towards their goals. It is a testament to those instructional specialists who add value to each of our students through individualized instruction, enriching activities, and relationships. It is a testament to those teachers who not only conduct small groups daily, but take the time to plan intentional, focused instruction to meet the needs of every one of their students. It is a testament to those teachers who take time everyday to pull their students closer, to talk with them, to understand them, to form a relationship with them-because they recognize that it makes a difference. It is a testament to the instructional assistants who support our students in countless ways. It is a testament to the support staff who work countless hours to ensure our students have nutritious meals and a clean, safe building in which to learn. It is a testament to the individuals who transport our students to and from school each day and represent the first and last "school" face they see each day. It is a testament to our office staff, who wear more hats than anyone can imagine to care for our Tigers. It is a testament to the teacher who realizes they are struggling in an area and they reach out and ask for training. It is a testament to each of you. The success of our students is our success. Thanks to each of you who works tirelessly to meet your student's needs. It does not go unnoticed.
