Knights Watch

February 1 - 5

All In, Mt. Gallant!

How We Win:

  • Building and sustaining relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Improving our core instruction in the areas of Guided Reading, Lucy Calkins' writing, and Number Talks.
  • Personalizing the MGES experience and learning for each child

Breezeway Doors

Please make sure students aren't touching the double doors leading to the courtyard located in the breezeway connecting the third grade hallway. Bonnie has found the doors cracked open during the day. When you're walking by, just make sure that the doors are closed.

District Calendar Feedback

The District Calendar Committee prepared possible calendars for 2016-2017, and there were many similarities and preferences on each. To help the committee develop a calendar that reflects the opinions, expectations and preferences of the community, please take time to provide your feedback: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RHSDcalendar .

Catawba Counselor - Timothy James

Mr. Tim is no longer our Catawba counselor. He has taken another position in Charlotte. We are still waiting to be assigned a new counselor. We will let you know who that is when we know.

Essential Learning - Independent Zone through Feb 12

You should be in the independent zone with math essentials. This part is very important so please trust yourself and follow the Test of Three (plus one). If you have any questions, please ask! Sheleea and I are more than happy to help.

Family Literacy Night - March 3rd - 5:30 - 6:30pm

During Read Across America Week, we are planning a family night on March 3rd. The plans so far are:
  • Second grade performance
  • Self-run family activities
  • Book Fair
  • Refreshments for sale

The idea is that the rotations will be completely parent-led. If you would like to volunteer that night, please let Melisa know. We'd love to have you!

Reading Coach's Corner

Mark your calendar! Our next grade level meeting will be Wed, Feb.17 to discuss monthly reading data. I will come to your space during the first 15 mins. of planning.

Great resource for writing! Take a look at the Teachers College site: www.readingandwritingproject.org . The TC at Columbia University is where much of Lucy Calkins’ daily work is done. Some of my favorite parts of this site can be found under the Resources section. Check out:

-Units of study classroom videos (Opinion writing is featured)

-Student work (Great pieces to use as mentor texts)

-Reading/writing performance assessments (can be helpful for Spring test prep)

Be brave, take a risk, and try something new in your classroom this week!
