Roselawn FIVE
Weekly Newsletter of Roselawn Elementary - January 21, 2019
Roselawn Families:
Welcome to the last full week in January. Hopefully everybody had a nice weekend and was able to stay warm. Enjoy this week's Roselawn FIVE!
#1 - School Closings - What Parents Need to Know
So far this winter the weather has been pretty light, just recently we have seen some extreme cold. Once in a while, the district will close due to weather-related circumstances. Superintendent Dr. Johnson will make that decision evaluating several different factors, once that decision is made, a notification goes out to parents from Mr. Kowalski.
We use a program called School Messenger, this will send a recorded message to all parents phone numbers that we have on file. Parents usually receive the phone call before 6 AM on the day of cancellation. Parents can also find out through local news organizations and by following the district social media accounts.
There are times when the district will do a late start or even early release due to poor weather conditions. No matter what the situation, the most important thing you can do is make sure the number you want to be contacted at is updated in the school district database. If you ever wanted to make a change or make sure the correct number is listed, please contact the Roselawn front desk at 715-924-2244.
#2 - Technology - Resources to help monitor
As technology access increases, not only across our society but also among students within Roselawn, it is essential to keep technology safety at the forefront. Common Sense Media is the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology.
Some Roselawn students might have received a new device for the holidays, or maybe they share a family tablet or phone. Whatever the technology use might be, it is important to continue to monitor the apps and usage. Recently they had a good article on the Apps to Watch Out for 2019.
#3 - Resources and Ideas to Self Regulate
#4 - What is the Bulldog Ticket?
What is a Bulldog ticket? We have mentioned in our past communications that we began our time back following the holidays by teaching our expectations in all areas. We also feel is important for us to acknowledge our students for following our expectations at high rates. This helps us build a fluency around desired behaviors. We recognize our students by handing out Bulldog tickets. Students then put their tickets in for our weekly drawings that are done on Fridays. Students can pick from a long list of activities if their name is drawn. They can choose to be principal for the day, sit in their teacher's chair, each lunch with two friends at a special table, and much, much more. We have wonderful students and we enjoy recognizing them for working hard and making positive choices.
If your son or daughter comes home claiming they received a Bulldog ticket, now parents know what exactly that is!
#5 - Don't Forget - Families can make food service payments online.
