Hiawatha Elementary
Week of May 4th
Hello Husky Families-
I hope this newsletter continues to find you all healthy and well. We are continuing to work through many plans and details on answers to the many questions we all have regarding the pickup of students' belongings and the plan for summer school, etc. We are developing a schedule that will include a day and time for you to pull up to Hiawatha and we will have your child’s supplies and medication (if applicable) to place right in your car. As soon as we have the schedule finalized we will communicate with you.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Please have your child email their teacher with a letter or picture they have created for them. Our teachers are working extremely hard right now and miss all their students greatly. They would LOVE to receive some virtual love and appreciation.
This week Remote Learning will continue Monday-Thursday. Friday will be a planning day for teachers. All assignments for the week are posted on Monday morning. Remember it is very important that your child is completing these weekly assignments and joining their class on the weekly zoom meetings. This is how we are taking attendance and keeping connected to our students.
Just a reminder to try and find the positive in each day. I know this can be extremely difficult but is important as we are all balancing so many things during this time. We are here to offer any support you and your family may need. Please don’t hesitate to email us for any assistance you may need. Remember we are all in this together and will come out of this situation stronger than ever.
We look forward to continuing to see your students on their Zoom calls, it truly warms our hearts to see them. We miss you all! Stay well!

Remote Learning Tips
Here are a few tips to help you as you create a new learning routine at home….
Set a schedule for your child to follow.
Find a quiet place for your child to sit and work without distractions such as toys, tv, etc.
Have your child wear headphones to help them with outside noises and help them stay focused.
School work does not need to be completed during the normal school hours. It is okay if the evening time is better for you and your child to work on school work together.
Most importantly remain flexible! This is new for everyone and will take some time for everyone to fall into a good routine.
A few independent activities that all students can work on without any adult assistance include the following:
Reading/listening to a book on MyOn or Epic
IXL practice
eSpark/DreamBox
Lexia
Journal writing
Coloring and putting puzzles together are great activities as well.

Internet Access/Support
Just a reminder that Comcast is offering free internet service through an offer that began last week. We encourage families without internet access to consider taking advantage of this offer.
Our staff is continuing to upload resources and activities to our PowerLearning pages and providing e-learning resources for our students to continue to learn at home. Reminder you can find your student’s classroom teacher by going on our website and clicking under Staff Directory to find their name and link. Here is the video tutorial link again if you need any support.
