Dear Parents,
This week, we’ll conclude our final book club unit with uproarious skits by our talented students. Students are writing scripts that will delve into a deep discussion of their novels and will hopefully provide some laughter too!
Thank you for your incredible support of this terrific group of students. Good luck in 7th grade!
Warm regards,
Ms. Conceisson
Social Studies
This week, students studied the geography of Africa. After watching videos, looking at maps, and reading informational text, students answered questions pertaining to each topic by filling in study sheets. After, students then designed a camel, illustrating the front of a camel and back. Students did a great job being creative with their designs! Wishing you all a happy summer!
Math
In the last month students wrapped up our unit on negative numbers by learning how to plot points on the four quadrants of the coordinate grid. This past week, they learned different ways to interpret and summarize data through mean, median, and box plots. Believe it or not, that is our final topic for the year! Next week will be filled with year-end celebrations and wrap-up activities. I hope every enjoys a fun and restful summer!
Science
What is that stupendous scent seeping out of the Science room? Squid! This week, Sixth Grade Marine Biologists did a great job examining the internal and external structures of the squid and relating them to their functions. Students learned how well-adapted squid are to their environment. Ask them about it! The sixth graders asked interesting questions and were mature and curious throughout the activity. Thank you for providing paper towels.
It’s hard to believe the school year is almost over! Have a safe and restful summer and remind students to stop by and say hello next year.
ELA with Ms. Murphy
This week, we finished up our unit in Language Live. After reading a Language Live informational text, students chose a section of the text to identify the main ideas and supporting details while using a highlighter. Students then designed a slide outlining the section’s heading, topic sentence, main ideas and details then presented their information in front of the class. After filling in a graphic organizer, outlining and listing each main idea and supporting details within the text, students wrote a summary of the article writing an expository paragraph. Wishing everyone a happy and safe summer!
