It’s important to keep hydrated during the day. Students may bring water bottles for water only. Any other beverages will not be allowed. Please make sure your students finish any morning drinks before they enter the building.
Lockers will be assigned by your student’s teacher during the first week of school.
Due to safety and capacity, backpacks will need to be kept in lockers. Please talk to your students about this. If backpacks are found throughout the halls, they will be taken to the main office.
Phones and headphones/airpods – once on campus students need to keep their phones off and away. Students may keep their phones with them, but the phones need to be off and out of sight.
For the first two weeks of school we will be reminding students of that of the policy. They will also be reminded in their core classes, as well as in our Monday Stoller announcements.
Starting on September 16th, your child will be asked to take their phone to the office if they are not following the school rules. They will be allowed to pick it up at the end of the day. During this time they will be reminded in core class and policy will be revisited with them.
Starting September 30th through the end of the school year, if a student is not following our cell phone policy, the student will take the phone to the office with the expectation that the parent will need to pick the phone up.
We understand and want to support your family’s decision to have your child have access to a cell phone. We want to ensure that when your students are here their focus is on instruction and that they are following school rules. I appreciate your support and understanding. Please make sure you discuss and reinforce this with your child the first couple weeks of school.
Our teachers and staff have been working hard this past week to be ready for students. We have a great year ahead of us!
Enjoy the long weekend!

Hall Changes This Year
We have received many emails and phone calls regarding hall changes. As we are preparing for students arrival at school next week, we are unable to respond to each one individually at this time.
Here is the message that was sent last spring via the Stoller Weekly that outlines the reasons for this change.
Dear Stoller families,
I hope your summer is getting off to a great start. It has been an incredible year for our building. I have enjoyed getting to know students and families. I am looking forward to welcoming back our returning 7th and 8th graders and our new incoming 6th graders.
Many of you have been communicating with me and your children about the possibility of hall changes for our students next year. One of my tasks this year was to observe and find a way to build community in our building. Because of our size, this has been a challenge. Past practice of our neighborhood model has promoted a culture of isolation from the school and not a part of the larger school community.
Next year we will be moving away from students being placed in the same hall for all three years. Students will still have their courses in one hall and their teachers will still be on a team looking after the needs of all students.
The goal of this change is to get students to participate as school community members versus hall members. We want students to develop school-wide relationships and increase their friendship circle. This will help students become more socially adjusted because of a broader and ever-expanding peer group.
This change will also provide our students with the opportunity to increase their capacity to collaborate with a more diverse group of people. Students will be able to experience a variety of teaching styles and learning environments which will better prepare them for high school. This builds capacity and skills that help prepare students for the 21st century workforce where collaboration within diverse settings is essential.
Because of the nature of our Summa program, students in this program will stay together. However, our Summa program will be relocating to the Orange Hall.
Thank you in advance for your support as we take these important steps to better prepare your students as they transition beyond middle school.

Plan your "Safe Route to School!"
As we all know, traffic in and around our school is chaotic at arrival and dismissal times. The roads and school parking lots cannot handle the volume of cars typically dropping off and picking up students. The majority of BSD students are in the walk/bike zone or are offered bus service to their school. PLEASE spend some time before school starts finding a safe walk or bike route to school or your bus stop. Here are the school’s walk zone maps and suggested routes.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility: keep your eyes open, look out for each other and help everyone arrive to school safely. You can help make the route to school safe for everyone.

Chromebooks are coming...
The Beaverton School District is fortunate to be able to provide Chromebooks to all secondary students. At the beginning of each school year, each student is automatically enrolled in the District's Chromebook Damage / Loss Program and charged a $20 fee. Students who are eligible for free and reduced meals will have the fee waived and removed from their account. In order to be covered by the Chromebook Damage / Loss Program, the $20 fee must have been paid or waived.
**On October 18, 2019, any Chromebook Damage / Loss fees that haven't been paid will be removed from student accounts. Students who have checked out a Chromebook but have not paid the Damage / Loss fee or have had the fee waived will not be covered by the program. Students not covered by the program will be fully responsible for any damage or loss of their assigned Chromebook.
For more information about the BSD Chromebook program, please visit the Chromebook Resources page on our District website.
