Phones, Game Systems, and Toys - Oh My!
No radios, toys, electronic games, lasers, or sports equipment may be brought to school without stated permission from the principal or the child's teacher, usually for the purposes of classroom sharing. The school bears no responsibility if any of these items are lost or stolen on school property.
At this time, the only toys we have allowed on a regular basis are balls for recess use, which must be transported to and from school in a bag. No other toys should be brought to school unless there is direct permission from the teacher or principal, and this would likely only occur if there is a special activity happening. The bus is an extension of school.
I also wanted to remind you about the CUSD 200 cell phone policy:
Students may not use a cellular phone or any other electronic communication device in any manner that disrupts the educational environment. Any student carrying a cellular phone must keep it turned off and out of sight during the regular school day unless authorized and approved by the building principal.
Therefore, cell phones and any other communications devices must not be used during school or cause any disruptions during school.
Another very important consideration for parents is that we do not have locked lockers at the elementary level. Please carefully consider whether your child has the level of maturity and responsibility to have a cell phone at school.
Again, the school bears no responsibility if any of these types of items are lost or stolen at school.
Thank You, Volunteers!
This week kicks-off a month of volunteer recognition. For the next four weeks, we will have a goody in the main office for our volunteers. Please make sure you help yourself each week when you are here.
Thanks for all you do!
Thinking of Next Year...
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As June approaches, I know that many of your thoughts are already turning toward next school year. Soon, I will begin working with the teachers on student placement for next year. Since students move in and out of our attendance area and staffing can change over the summer, the process will continue into August. We do our best to develop classes that provide the best opportunities for optimal teaching and learning. Due to the complex nature of developing class lists, it is impossible to accommodate requests for specific classroom teachers. The following quote is from the Parent/Student Handbook:
Many professional hours of planning and preparation are spent in the spring to ensure the most appropriate class placement for each child. To change even one student can upset the balance that was very carefully created by teachers and principals. Therefore, requests for a child's placement with a specific teacher are not invited.
We do value your input, and we invite you to share your thoughts and impressions about your child's needs. Feel free to email me at jennifer.craig@cusd200.org. It will be most helpful to receive any information you have to share by mid-May. Please understand that class placements will not be finalized and communicated to parents until sometime in August.
Thank you,
Jennifer Craig
Principal

Message from the Health Office
News from the Health Office for 5th Grade Parents
Recently, 5th graders brought home an envelope with important health information. The envelope will include a letter with information regarding the health requirements for 6th grade, a physical examination form and a dental exam form.
The school nurse needs each student’s health records, so that they can begin 6th grade. Please return completed exams to the elementary school health office before Memorial Day or to the middle school after this date. The physical and immunization requirements MUST be completed and turned in by the first day of school. Please make your appointment now.
If you have any questions regarding the health requirements, please feel to contact the Health Office

Please Help Us Keep our Students Safe
- If your child walks to school, please remind him/her to watch for cars and cross President St. with the crossing guard.
- Be vigilant of children when driving close to the school and drive very slowly in the flow zone and main parking lot.
- Passing a school bus while it's stop sign is out is strictly prohibited.
- Please observe our parking lot and flow zone procedures, including during BASP pick up and drop off. The driveway by door one is an entrance, not an exit.
- Students who bring balls to use at recess should pack them in a backpack or bag. Please talk to your child about never chasing a ball into the street.
- Using a hand-held cell-phone while driving is prohibited.
- We ask that you keep dogs off school property during arrival, school hours, and dismissal.
- Please do not double and triple park in the school parking lot.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our children safe.
