Meet the LFES School Counselor!
My husband and I both grew up in the Locust Fork Community, and we have proudly raised 2 LF Hornets of our own. Our son Micah graduated from LFHS in 2020, and our daughter Alana will graduate from LFHS this May.
I am excited to share a little of what I do in the information below.
Did you know?
This book helps students learn about my job.
Adding to other's happiness and your own.
Being kind even when someone is unkind to you can win them over!
Great 3rd-6th homework tips video.
You have to be a good friend to have good friends!
Sometimes we need to choose better words to stay out of trouble!
We talk about careers.
This book is a great example about how hurtful spreading rumors can be!
We talk about calming our worries and learn some simple techniques to help.
The new Opt-In form:
The majority of my time with students is spent in the classroom doing Large Group lessons using the examples above and others that are very similar. Unfortunately, if the Opt-In form is not signed, your child can not participate in these lessons. I will have to relocate them to a different classroom while I am in their homeroom.
I do speak with students in Small Groups at times to help them work through school related issues as they come up. (mostly resolving conflicts among friend and classmates)
We do not currently have a Mentoring Program at LFES. If Big Brothers/Big Sisters returns, it would only take place with parental consent through their own permission form.
We do take Surveys occasional to help us evaluate the needs of our students. This helps us to know which topics need to be covered in my regular lessons.
Crisis Intervention is exactly what it sounds like. I talk with students that need immediate assistance. This typically involves me reaching out to a parent/guardian once the immediate crisis is addressed.
School-Based Mental Health - On-going Counseling Services - I think this one is the topic that sounds the most intimidating and is unfamiliar to parents. I am not a licensed therapist, and I would never offer to take the place of someone more qualified. If I felt the need to check in with your child on a regular basis, it would be about a school related topic, and I would typically make contact with you first. If I am not qualified to help a student, I always ask the parents if they would like my help with a referral for outside services.
Questions/Concerns/Clarification: Please reach out to me or Mrs. Williamson if we can help with questions about the Opt-In form. We would be happy to clarify any information concerning our School Counseling Program to put your mind at ease.
