Foundation Update
February 2016
Our Journey of Hope Continues
I hope 2016 is off to a great start for you and your families! I just want to take this opportunity to once again thank you for your support of Lynne Mitchell Foundation's mission to provide educational resources and opportunities to needy children in Jamaica. With so many conflicting demands for your time and resources, it's not only a privilege but also an honor to have your attention and support. I look forward to your continued involvement with the foundation this year as we continue to offer critical programs at Seaview Primary School. In 2016, we will not only continue to fund our school lunch, transportation and scholarship programs, we will expand our recent launch of a school breakfast program to make it possible for students in need to receive a nutritious breakfast every school morning.
Our school building program will see the erection of a safety fence around the entire perimeter of Seaview Primary School. Further, we will begin not only the process of providing architectural plans for approval to the Jamaican government with respect to our mission to build a new school building at Seaview Primary School, we will also work to select a construction company.
Our Annual Back Pack Drive to provide back packs and school supplies to every student as they begin the new school year in September will kick off April 1, 2016. As you know, $30 funds a back pack filled with school supplies for a student. We hope you will support us with this initiative.
Finally, please save the date for our annual signature fundraising gala to be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Coral Gables Country Club. Our theme this year, "Tropical Paradise: A Night in the Caribbean" promises an evening of fun, great food, cocktails, auction items and an after party that will make this party for a purpose truly memorable. If you are interested in volunteering to work on our planning committee, sponsoring the event, or donating auction items, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to us at info@lynnemitchellfoundation.org.
I look forward to your continued involvement and support in 2016!
Cheers,
Marlene

Recent Interview with Brianna, Ashanique and Ashaylia
Marlene: I know you are a talented student, what motivates you to be a good learner and put forth your best effort?
Ashaylia: My family motivates me to be a good learner, especially my brother. Seeing where we are now motivates me to push forward and to do my best to make them happy. Hoping one day I can provide for them.
Brianna: My mother is the one that motivates me because she has to be in another country working hard to provide for my sister and me.
Marlene: What advice would you give students at Seaview Primary School about achieving success in high school?
Ashanique: Do not to waste your time. Try to be successful in whatever you do, set goals and work hard in order to achieve those goals.
Ashaylia: High school is not a bed of roses as some would say. It will bring a lot of challenges and pressure, but it is your duty not to succumb to this pressure. Be focused at all times, stay strong, use your time wisely and study.
Brianna: No matter what obstacles come in your way of success never let them stop you from achieving your goals.
Marlene: What do you consider the most urgent problem in the world today? Why?
Ashaylia: War. There is no love anymore. Every man is now for himself. We are no longer our brother's keeper.
Ashanique: I would consider overpopulation to be the most urgent problem in the world. There is less resources available than what is needed and this leads to poverty and hunger.
Marlene: Imagine yourself 10 years from today. What goals and ambitions do you have for yourself, personally and professionally?
Ashaylia: I want to have a wonderful job in bank managing that I love and to earn a lot of money. Also, to start a family and help others.
Brianna: Finished university with a first class honors degree in nursing and becoming an entrepreneur of a charity program.
Ashanique: If I should imagine myself ten years from today, I would see a successful nurse, who is apart of some charity program.
New School Breakfast Program
The best use of 50 cents per day!
The goal of our School Breakfast Program is to feed 50 of the neediest students at Seaview Primary School breakfast each school day for the entire school year. The cost per student is just 50 cents per day ($2.50 per week). The cost for the cook to prepare the meals is $25 per week. Presently there are 45 students who eat breakfast 3 days per week. On the other 2 days about 20 to 25 students.
The current Menu includes:
Bread, scrambled eggs with plantains and tea;
Fried dumpling with frankfurters and tea
Porridge with bread & butter;
Fritters and plantains and tea;
Baked beans with sausage, bread and tea; and
Ripe bananas and oranges are provided sometimes.
Parents are grateful that this is done and the result is that the students arrive at school earlier and attend more regularly.
