Mission Statement

St. Joseph Catholic School fosters a diverse community of disciples empowered through a rigorous and inclusive Catholic education rooted in Gospel values and service to others.

mass reflections

Our sixth graders reflected on Father Tim's Homily from last Friday, September 24:

During Mass, Father Tim responded to the Gospel telling us that we should get to know Jesus. We should always listen to His word. God created us, so we should get to know Him as He knows us. - Leah

During Mass, the Homily and Gospel were about getting to know ourselves and God. This meant to me that we shouldn't just follow Jesus not knowing who we are. We should learn to know God and get to know ourselves, so that we will one day receive God's great blessing in Heaven. - Giovanni

The Homily was about how we should know God better, like getting to know your family. This would help you know your history and where you come from. Father Tim told us some things he did as a child after church with his family. Some the ways he learned about himself was looking at family photos, discussing family history, and talking about where the family came from. This all means that Jesus got his disciples thinking when Jesus says, "But who do you say I am?" - Ali

thanksgiving food drive

Catholic Charities is always so grateful for our food donations for their pantry. So many of our students routinely bring food items to mass on Fridays. Our donations help sustain food for those families that they serve. We know that the holidays are always a challenging time for people and there is more of a demand on Catholic Charities. As we've done in the past, we are requesting specific items between now and Thanksgiving. We will keep track of the number of items each class donates. There will be prizes for the class that brings in the most items.

During the conference, elementary grade teachers will review your child's progress report with you. Following the conference, the progress reports will be sent home with the child.

Mrs. Bruchey's Buddy Bench

On Friday, September 24, friends and family joined our school community to bless a Buddy Bench in honor of Mrs. Bruchey, longtime teacher and assistant principal of SJCS. Some of Mrs. Bruchey's friends and family donated the bench to our playground in memory of her. The idea behind a Buddy Bench is that if a child is looking for a friend to play with on the playground, he/she can go sit on the bench. When classmates see a student sitting on the bench, they are encouraged to ask the student to join them to play. May this Buddy Bench, given in Mrs. Bruchey’s memory, be a place where friends meet and friendships and belonging grow.

We are asking for a donation to the school for the purchase of the table(s). They measure six feet by 30 inches and six feet by 24 inches. St. Joseph Prayer

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore, I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen.
