Important Parent/Guardian Information
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
As we communicated through our phone messaging system earlier this afternoon, the District learned today that an individual from the Long Lake Central School community has tested positive for COVID-19.
As outlined in our positive case response plan, the District will move into remote learning for all PK-12 students and teachers for at least the next three days - Tuesday, December 1 - Thursday, December 3.
Our transition to remote learning for the next three days is a District-made decision that we are employing to help support Hamilton County Public Health’s contact tracing process. We plan to return to in-person instruction on Friday, December 4.
The District is working closely with Hamilton County Public Health and will continue to follow their guidance. We will communicate any updated information through our One Call Now telephone messaging system, and will also utilize our website.
Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.
If you or your child(ren) are identified as having been potentially exposed, Hamilton County Public Health will contact you directly as part of their contact tracing procedures.
The New York State Department of Health provides information about COVID-19, and the CDC offers tips to keep children healthy during this time. The New York State Department of Health produced a Pre-K to Gr 12 COVID-19 Toolkit which you might also find helpful.
Schools continue to utilize Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations on Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces to reduce viral transmission and keep our children and school personnel healthy and safe. Parents and family members can assist this effort by promoting healthy behaviors and following these practices:
Stay home from school or work if you are sick, even if your symptoms are mild
Wear a face covering
Maintain physical distance
Avoid attending or hosting gatherings with people outside of your household
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue (or sleeve), and then throw the tissue in the trash. Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
Avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Clean and disinfect surfaces that are often touched
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Take care of your health overall - nutrition, sleep, hydration, etc.
Since the start of the school year, the District has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting our building in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the CDC. We will continue with these protocols over the next three days and into the future to ensure our building is safe for in-person instruction.
Parents should continue to monitor their child’s health and the health of their families for COVID-19 symptoms.
During our temporary remote learning period, meals for students will be delivered to those who sign up. This will be similar to our meal delivery in the Spring. Please go to the website, www.longlakecsd.org, look for Quick Links, and fill out the Meal Delivery for Remote Learners Google Form by 10 p.m. today, Monday, November 30. You can request all three days of meals on this single form. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered between 9a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, December 1-3.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Ms. Noelle J. Short
