Kinder Review

Literacy Corner

This week we continued to review all Letterland characters, letters and sounds taught thus far in Letterland. We also reviewed digraphs taught, while introducing the students to more digraphs that they will come across while reading. Please review these at home with your child: -ck, sh, th, -ng, and ch. We also continued and completed our unit on Winter Celebrations. This week we reviewed Hanukkah, Las Posadas, and introduced the students to Kwanzaa. The students did a great job remembering a lot of the information taught. While learning about the countries, we worked on comprehension. Comprehension is a key piece of reading. After reading any form of text, please review the information read by asking specific questions about the stories or passages. Also ask questions where the answers are not found in the text, but draw on the students prior knowledge and connections made to the text. We will continue working on this skill in class after everything read. The students had a great time learning in their pajamas. It made it much more relaxing.

Next week we will begin learning about different things associated with Christmas. We have a many special days planned to go along with the information we will learn. Please note all of the special days. On these days your child is to wear special clothing and we will complete a variety of activities to go along with each. We will also be learning in the process. Even thought it is a fun filled week, we will continue learning about letters, digraphs, reading skills and all writing components.

Math Lab

This week we continued to learn about numbers. We put our numbers in order from 1-20. The students need to know there numbers because they will eventually be tested on writing their numbers from 1-20 by memory. We also reviewed addition and shapes. While reviewing shapes, we compared them by seeing how they were alike and different. We discussed the different attributes of each shape: their number of sides and corners, and some that were round.

Next week we will continue to work on numbers and addition, as well as shapes.

Parental FYI and Reminders

I know the kids are excited about the holiday season, but following the expectations in class allows us to not only continue our learning, but allows us to do all of the fun things associated with the holiday season. Please review the expectations with your child at home so we have a great end to the last week of school before winter break.

THANK YOU so much for all of you who contributed to the class activities for the week. We got everything we need to make it a fun and eventful week.
