Principal's Message

Dear Families,

When winter weather stays quiet, the unbroken stretch of focused learning in school this time of year is a wonderful thing to be a part of. Students are diving deep into their work with teachers and classmates. There's a rhythm to their days, and the result is meaningful growth.

That said, I am sure the response to the question, "What did you do in school today?" is probably, more often than not, "Nothing." To combat this, I encourage you to consider questions that avoid this pitfall. Consider the following conversation starters:

  • "What was the best part of your day?"
  • "What was the hardest part of your day?"
  • "Can you teach me what you were working on today in math?"
  • "Tell me about the book you're reading right now."
You may also want to leverage updates from teachers to ask specific questions. If all else fails, be in touch with us so we can help support your learning of what we're up to!

Chess Club Enrolling for Winter Session

Submitted by Valerie Harding

Join us for the Winter semester of Josiah Haynes' popular Chess Club taught by Chess master Dmitri Frenklakh. Any level and age are welcome!

This Winter semester runs 8-weeks every Wednesday from 7:45am - 8:45am
Starting January 28th and ending on March 18, 2020. Fee for the semester is $150 (checks to be made payable to Dmitry Frenklakh; kindly bring your checks to the first Chess Club session on January 28th)

Our Chess club provides children with a solid foundation on which to build and grow their skills of visualization and deductive reasoning. We have all ages from kindergarten to 5th grade. A child who is introduced to chess at a young age is likely to do better in school for years to come.

Research shows that playing chess improves a child’s thinking, problem-solving, reading, and math scores. Educators and chess experts generally agree the first grade is the ideal time to introduce children to chess, although some as young as four or five may be ready to learn and play. It really helps children in building self-confidence. We hope to have your child join us!

Payment is due at the first class on January 28th. Please remember to make check out to Dmitri Frenklakh. If you have any questions or for further information, please contact Dmitri Frenklakh by email dima.frank@gmail.com or if you have any questions, please call him at (617) 823-6865.
