Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of February 8, 2021
I hope you are all enjoying your three-day weekend! Please remember there is no school on Monday, February 8 and Monday, February 15 in observance of Lincoln and Washington's birthdays, respectively. If you're a football fan, I hope you safely enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!
Packet distribution will be on Tuesday from 8:00-10:00 am and 3:00-5:00 pm. We will also be handing out stick-on mustaches from the MVPs for a Spirit Theme Week. Feel free to pick one up for your children who want to participate or make your own at home. The mustaches are not intended for classroom time unless your child's teacher has given special permission. We're hoping for lots of photos in next week's MV News!
Thank you all for your participation in the Mar Vista Picture Days. It was especially great to see all the students who I haven't seen in person in a long time. My, how they've grown! The flow was nice and steady and everything went very smoothly. A make up day will be scheduled for mid March for those who did not have an opportunity to have a photo taken. Thank you again, families, for following protocols and keeping our community safe!
Have a great week!

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is Mustache Mania, and there will be fake mustaches handed out on Tuesday, the 9th, during distribution. Send in pictures to me by 12:00 each Friday to have your child’s picture featured in the Mar Vista News.
Students will be continuing unit 5 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.
The science fair looks quite a bit different this year, and due to the structure of distance learning, it is not being required for 4th-6th graders. It is still encouraged for those students wishing to participate, and they can still submit their projects directly to the county fair this year. You can find more information about that here: https://ca-scc.zfairs.com/?f=760d2abd-97bf-4923-871c-a48fb3af0565
Please note, the deadline for registration is March 1st.
We will have science fair boards for anyone that wishes to participate, please just reach out to me and we can set something up.

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
